Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang, President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, said that it has become a tradition that every 5 years, associated with the anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor selects and honors outstanding grassroots trade union and labor union presidents nationwide.
In 2024, the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor received 55 nominations and recommendations for outstanding trade union officials from provinces, cities, central and equivalent trade unions to select the Nguyen Van Linh award and 103 nominations and recommendations for selecting outstanding grassroots trade union and labor union presidents nationwide out of a total of more than 121,000 outstanding grassroots trade union presidents nationwide.
Based on the candidates' achievements, closely following the selection criteria and the Award Regulations, the Selection Council carefully reviewed each profile, classified, assessed and evaluated the achievements of the individuals nominated. In the spirit of impartiality, objectivity, openness and transparency, the Presidium of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor decided to award the 4th Nguyen Van Linh Award to 10 union officials who received the Nguyen Van Linh Award and 95 outstanding grassroots union and trade union chairmen nationwide.
On behalf of the Party and State leaders, Mr. Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and National Assembly Chairman, said that over 95 years of establishment and development, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor has continuously grown and matured, accompanied the nation, been a reliable and loyal support of the Party, wholeheartedly strived for the interests of the working class, and made important and direct contributions to the great victory of the Vietnamese revolution. The working class and the General Confederation of Labor have always been the leading force in the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.
“The achievements of the Vietnam Trade Union in recent years are the crystallization of many factors, including the efforts and overcoming of all difficulties by the Trade Unions at all levels, in which exemplary Trade Union officials were awarded the Nguyen Van Linh Award, and excellent Chairmen of grassroots Trade Unions and Trade Unions were commended,” said the National Assembly Chairman.
According to the National Assembly Chairman, although the working environment, age, career, and circumstances are very different, the common point of the examples being commended and honored today is the spirit of constant innovation and creativity, with many initiatives and solutions to improve the quality of trade union activities, improve working conditions, better care for the material and spiritual life of workers, and gain the trust and good feelings of workers, employers, Party committees, authorities, and the whole society.
The National Assembly Chairman requested that Trade Unions at all levels continue to effectively implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress; Resolution No. 02 of the Politburo on innovation of the organization and operation of the Vietnam Trade Union in the new situation and the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's laws and policies on the organization and operation of Trade Unions. Along with that, Trade Union organizations regularly conduct social supervision, criticism and participate in building the Party and authorities at all levels, building strong enough trade union resources to meet the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State, the society and all workers and employees. In addition, promptly advise the Party and the State on issues related to employment, workers' lives and the organization and operation of the Vietnam Trade Union; grasp the situation of employment, income, life, listen to the aspirations of workers and union officials to develop programs and plans... In addition, the Trade Unions at all levels proactively contribute to the preparation process for the 14th National Party Congress, effectively propagate and implement laws and resolutions of the National Assembly, including many new regulations and policies related to workers; promptly deploy regulations on reforming wage policies, adjusting pensions, social insurance benefits, monthly allowances, preferential allowances for meritorious people and a number of other social security policies effective from July 1, 2024.
The National Assembly Chairman added that the 7th session of the 15th National Assembly gave its first comments on the revised Trade Union Law with many new requirements and tasks for trade union organizations. It is expected that the National Assembly will consider and approve it at the upcoming 8th session. “I hope that the exemplary trade union officials honored today will strongly spread the spirit of innovation, creativity, and continuous striving among trade union officials at all levels; there will be more exemplary trade union officials who deserve to receive awards, commendations, and honors in the following years,” said the National Assembly Chairman.
Also in the program, delegates reviewed touching images showing the respect and gratitude of union officials, union members and workers nationwide for the affection and care of exemplary leaders of the Party and State, especially the late General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, for the working class and the Vietnam Trade Union.
