11 years of growing rubber, reluctantly harvesting... firewood

Around 2019, Tan Hung Rubber Farm under Kon Tum Rubber One Member Co., Ltd. cooperated with Kon Tum City people to grow rubber on a total area of about 255 hectares.

People have land for production, and the company invests in seeds, fertilizers, and care. People receive about 49.7% of the profit from rubber latex.

More than 11 years after the cooperation agreement, many rubber plantations have not been harvested, while others have low productivity. The profit from more than 255 hectares of rubber is considered very small.

Mr. H'Ni (Ia Chim commune, Kon Tum city) said that his family has given a garden of about 1.5 hectares to cooperate in growing rubber. The company promised that in about 5 years, when the rubber tree produces latex, they will share the profits.

"I also hope that the company will soon come up with a solution to resolve the above situation, and at the same time return the land to the people for cultivation and crop growing. For the past 11 years, land and home gardens have been wasted," said Mr. H'Ni.

Similarly, Mr. A Lip (Ia Chim commune) has also repeatedly made recommendations about the low productivity of rubber plantations, hoping that the cooperative company will take measures to liquidate rubber trees and return the land to the people to cultivate other more suitable crops.

Speaking to Dan Tri newspaper reporter, Mr. Ngo Thanh Man - Deputy Director of Kon Tum Rubber One Member Co., Ltd. - said: "For many years, the company has cooperated with people to grow rubber. However, due to soil and climate, many rubber gardens are underdeveloped and do not meet the conditions for exploitation."

Through inspection, the enterprise determined that Tan Hung Rubber Farm had more than 23 hectares of underdeveloped rubber trees that could not be exploited or were exploited with low productivity. Similarly, in Ia Hneng commune, there were more than 40 hectares of stunted rubber trees.

The company has reported to the Vietnam Rubber Industry Group and is waiting for the Group's direction on how to resolve the issue.

To create jobs and income for associated households whose gardens do not meet the conditions for exploitation, Tan Hung Rubber Plantation arranged for workers from these households to tap latex in other gardens, but the people did not agree.

"We are counting and preparing documents to send to the Vietnam Rubber Industry Group, to have a basis for deciding to auction this area of poor quality rubber for firewood. The proceeds will be divided among the affected households, and the land will be returned to the people for cultivation," said Mr. Man.
