Java pangolin, a wild animal listed in the Red Book, was released back into Cuc Phuong forest in Ninh Binh.

After rescuing and bringing these wild animals to the SVW Rescue Center, the animal care team and the Veterinary team here monitor the health status of each individual to assess their recovery rate.

From there, the team of experts planned the stages of training survival skills in the wild, to best prepare the Javan pangolins to be able to find food and defend themselves in the wild.

After more than 2 months of rehabilitation, all 12 Javan pangolins were assessed as meeting the conditions for release, ready to return to their natural "home".

Prior to the release, the SVW conservation team conducted three biodiversity surveys to find a suitable release site for the pangolin.

Evaluation criteria are based on factors such as: The release location has ecological characteristics suitable for the habits of the Java pangolin; The environment is an abundant source of food for the pangolin.

Choosing a release location is extremely important because releasing wildlife in the right environment not only helps the wild population thrive, but also contributes to protecting biodiversity in that area.

Javan pangolin (Manis Javanica) is listed as critically endangered according to the IUCN Red Book; belongs to group IB, regulated in the list of endangered and rare forest animals in the Vietnam Red Book.

All illegal pangolin trade will be prosecuted. In particular, Java pangolin is listed in Appendix I of the CITES International Convention, prohibiting cross-border trade and exploitation from the wild. However, currently, illegal hunting and trading activities are still extremely complicated.
