Accordingly, more than 30 students at a high school in Tokyo are said to have shared potato chips during recess, when some of them began showing signs of nausea, stomach pain and acute pain around the mouth.
Fuji TV said 14 of the students were taken to hospital. All were conscious, but at least one student was so weak that he needed a wheelchair.
Isoyama Corp, a company based in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, which produces the chips, said it had no further details about the incident. The company said it hoped the students would recover soon.
According to the manufacturer's website, people under 18 are prohibited from eating these foods because they can be so spicy that they can hurt.
The company said that a large amount of extremely hot peppers, commonly known as "ghost peppers", are used as an ingredient in the potatoes. The company also warned people with high blood pressure and weak stomachs to absolutely avoid eating these super spicy potatoes, and advised those who like spicy food to use caution.
