Da Nang promotes digital economy, making information security a pillar

The workshop "Developing the digital economy of Da Nang city to 2025" organized by the People's Committee of Da Nang city on September 22 attracted the participation of experts, managers and businesses. The workshop aimed to evaluate the digital economy and ensure growth targets, especially in the context of Da Nang pioneering digital transformation.

Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City, speaking at the workshop, said that the 1st Congress of the Da Nang City Party Committee, term 2025-2030, determined that the city will become a new growth pole of Vietnam, a pioneer in science , technology, innovative startups and digital transformation.

Mr. Ho Quang Buu affirmed that developing the digital economy is a strategic task to enhance competitiveness, build a smart, creative, livable and sustainable city. In recent years, Da Nang has implemented many breakthrough solutions, achieving encouraging results in building a smart city, digital transformation associated with administrative reform and digital economic development.

The city has been leading the country in the provincial digital transformation index (DTI) for four consecutive years. Currently, Da Nang is implementing many important infrastructure projects such as Lien Chieu Port oriented towards a smart port, Free Trade Zone, International Financial Center, International Data Center at the High-Tech Park.

By 2030, Da Nang has set many major targets such as the scale of the digital economy reaching at least 35-40% of the city's GRDP (higher than the national level of 30%); having at least 1 digital technology enterprise on par with advanced countries operating in the city; deploying at least 2 more concentrated information technology parks.

The city also aims to attract a number of businesses with revenue of at least 1 billion USD to set up research and production headquarters in the city and strives to have at least 1 digital technology business with 15,000 employees or achieving revenue of 2 billion USD/year.

Mr. Ho Quang Buu emphasized: "The city is committed to continuing to improve the investment environment, build transparent policies, and accompany innovative ideas to turn the digital economy into a new growth driver."

According to Associate Professor Dr. Tran Minh Tuan, Director of the Department of Digital Economy and Society, Ministry of Science and Technology, Da Nang city has an important position to develop the digital economy with strengths in tourism, seaports and logistics.

Mr. Tran Minh Tuan suggested that the roadmap for implementing digital economic development be divided into 3 phases: Phase 1 (2025-2026) focuses on building the foundation; Phase 2 (2027-2028) expands application and replication; Phase 3 (by 2030) completes the set goals.

At the same time, Mr. Tran Minh Tuan also emphasized that, in order for the digital economy to become a pillar, the issue of information security and network security for each citizen must be determined right now. He stated: “We must install anti-malware software at a basic level; We must ensure information security on national digital platforms and city platforms right from the design stage, that is, resolutely only put into use digital platforms that meet the legal conditions on network information security”.

At the workshop, many presentations focused on applying digital transformation to 8 pillar areas of Da Nang including trade, tourism, culture, manufacturing and processing industry, logistics, agriculture, environment and energy.

At the workshop, the People's Committee of Da Nang City also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Grab Limited Liability Company in promoting digital transformation.
