18 pairs of Chung cakes and Giay cakes offered to the Hung Kings: Symbol of sincere gratitude

(CLO) On April 6, the delegation of leaders, delegates, and folk artists of Viet Tri city and Yen Lap district, the two localities with teams winning first prize in the 2024 "Wrapping, cooking banh chung and pounding banh giay" contest, organized the offering of 18 pairs of banh chung and banh giay to the Hung Kings.

According to tradition, on the occasion of the Hung Kings' Commemoration Day - Hung Temple Festival every year, the teams that won first prize in the contest of wrapping, cooking banh chung and pounding banh giay the previous year will be able to offer banh chung and banh giay to the King the following year.

The delegation of leaders, delegates, and folk artists of Viet Tri and Yen Lap cities offered 18 pairs of Chung cakes and Day cakes to the Hung Kings.

In 2024, the Viet Tri City Folk Culture Group won first prize in the Chung cake wrapping and cooking contest; Yen Lap District won first prize in the Giay cake pounding contest, so they were chosen to offer Chung cake and Giay cake to the Hung Kings at the Hung Kings' Commemoration Anniversary and the 2025 Ancestral Land Culture and Tourism Week.

At Kinh Thien Palace, the delegation and folk artists representing the people of Viet Tri city and Yen Lap district offered their ancestors gifts made from the finest materials to express gratitude to the Hung Kings and their ancestors for their contributions to building the country; praying for the Hung Kings to bless the nation, the people, and the people to live forever.

Offering 18 pairs of banh chung and banh giay to the Hung Kings is not simply a worship ritual, but also a reenactment of a beautiful cultural tradition, a reminder of the origin, of the great merit of the Hung Kings in discovering, building and protecting the beautiful country.

The number of 18 pairs of banh chung and banh giay also has a deep symbolic meaning, recalling the 18 Hung Kings who built the Van Lang nation, laying the foundation for the development of the Vietnamese nation.

The offering of 18 pairs of Chung cakes and Day cakes at this year’s Hung Kings Commemoration Day continues to affirm the everlasting value of the Hung Kings worship in the spiritual life of the Vietnamese people. This is a testament to the strong vitality of national culture, a solid foundation for Vietnam to continue to rise and develop in the new era.
