Thang Long-Hanoi Festival 2025: Convergence and connection of heritage

On the afternoon of October 21, at Thang Long Imperial Citadel, a press conference was held about "Thang Long- Hanoi Festival 2025". This is a large-scale cultural and artistic event, determined to be held annually.

Speaking at the press conference, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Le Thi Anh Mai said: With the theme "heritage-connection-time", the Thang Long-Hanoi Festival was held for the first time under the direction of the Hanoi People's Committee with the coordination of departments, branches, localities and many provinces and cities in the country.

"The event will be an annual cultural rendezvous organized in the spirit of innovation, creativity and integration, demonstrating the aspiration to build Hanoi into a creative center of Southeast Asia, a place where tradition and modernity, national quintessence and international integration spirit intersect," said Ms. Le Thi Anh Mai.

Accordingly, the Thang Long-Hanoi Festival 2025 will be held in many spaces symbolizing the heritage and creativity of the capital such as: Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Ngoc Son Temple, Temple of Literature, Hanoi Museum, Hoan Kiem Lake...

Gathering more than 30 unique activities, the program is an experiential journey, opening up a space connecting the past, present and future, where every citizen and every tourist can deeply feel the cultural pulse of Hanoi. The opening ceremony of the Festival will be held on the evening of November 7 at Thang Long Imperial Citadel. The closing ceremony is scheduled to take place on the evening of November 16 at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square.

According to Mr. Pham Hoang Giang, General Director of the Opening Ceremony, the Thang Long-Hanoi Festival 2025 is the event with the longest preparation time ever. The Organizing Committee spent about 6 months on this work.

"Organizing the Festival for 16 days is necessary so that people and tourists have more opportunities and time to thoroughly experience the heritage and cultural quintessence of the capital," added Mr. Pham Hoang Giang.

At the Temple of Literature - Quoc Tu Giam, visitors will experience a series of activities "Heritage Convergence", displaying traditional craft products of the three ancient capitals of Thang Long, Hue and Hoa Lu; introducing Hanoi's culinary culture and flavors along with handicraft activities and creative designs at Ho Van.

Visitors will also experience many unique activities such as: fashion show "Ao Dai on the heritage road"; painting exhibition "Thanh Tan Hanoi"; art program "Oh Hanoi"; international scientific seminar "East-West educational and cultural heritage"; exhibition "Heritage and the future"...

Coming to the Thang Long-Hanoi Festival 2025, tourists will have the opportunity to watch the expanded Hanoi Puppetry Festival (taking place on November 15), the play "Thang Long Capital" (taking place on November 10), the program "Ngoc Son Mysterious Night" (taking place on November 8 and 16)...

In particular, the 2025 Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival is one of the highlights of the Festival. This is the fourth time this activity has been held. This year, the Hanoi Ao Dai Tourism Festival will last from November 7-9 at the Hanoi Museum and Hoan Kiem Lake area with many activities honoring the beauty of traditional Ao Dai associated with the cultural and tourism values ​​of the capital.

In addition, the Festival also celebrates the 10th anniversary of UNESCO's recognition of "Tug of War Rituals and Games" as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Within the framework of the program, there will be an international conference "A decade of protecting and promoting Tug of War Rituals and Games" along with exchange activities and tug of war performances with the participation of international delegations and 10 heritage practicing communities from provinces and cities in the country.
