When storm No. 12 was forecast to cause heavy rain and deep flooding in Da Nang, city residents quickly switched to a proactive state, stockpiling enough food for 3 days.

On the afternoon of October 21, at Con, Han, Dong Da, Thanh Khe, Hoa Cuong wholesale markets, etc., the number of buyers increased many times compared to normal days. Essential goods such as green vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, instant noodles, dried foods, eggs, rice, etc. were consumed strongly, but prices were stable and the supply was abundant. Ms. Tran Kim Thanh, a trader at Dong Da market, shared: "There were many buyers but everyone was calm, I imported more goods to serve, still selling at the old price. Everyone had to prepare, sharing a part made me feel relieved."

Not only traditional markets, but also retail systems such as WinMart, Danavi, Co.opmart, Bach Hoa Xanh, etc., have seen a sharp increase in the number of customers, especially Korean and Chinese tourists coming to buy food and goods, which is also more crowded than usual. "Supermarkets have to work overtime to continuously replenish goods. All units have proactively stocked up on double the amount of essential goods, committed to not increasing prices and ensuring stable supply," said a representative of Mega Market Da Nang, a large shopping supermarket located in Cach Mang Thang Tam, Hai Chau Ward, Da Nang.

On the evening of October 21, at Co.opmart Da Nang supermarket (478 Dien Bien Phu, Thanh Khe ward), the egg, instant noodle, rice, vegetable and canned food stalls were almost packed with customers. Many customers pushed carts full of food, waiting in long lines to pay.

Ms. Trang Tran (residing on Dung Si Thanh Khe Street, Thanh Khe Ward) said: "Hearing that the storm was about to hit, there might be heavy rain and flooding, so everyone rushed to buy food to stock up. It's past 6 p.m. but I still haven't been paid because there are too many people in line."

Many shelves and stalls at major supermarkets in Da Nang are "empty" of vegetables and necessities due to the high demand from people to buy reserves to prevent storm No. 12.

Similarly, Tram Anh and her husband (living on Phan Dang Luu Street, Hoa Cuong Ward) were also at the supermarket from late afternoon to shop. “We only bought enough meat, fish sauce, and rice for 3 days. However, when we entered the supermarket, we saw a lot of people buying, and many shelves of necessities were empty,” she said.

According to CAND Newspaper reporters, the number of customers at supermarkets such as WinMart, Co.opmart, Danavi... this evening (October 21) increased many times compared to normal days. Although the number of customers increased dramatically, there was no jostling or hoarding of goods. The retail system had to increase cashiers and rearrange shelves to continuously replenish goods. The most consumed items were still rice, drinks, instant noodles, eggs, vegetables and dried goods.

In particular, despite the high demand, most supermarkets and retailers have kept prices stable, ensuring adequate supply so that people can confidently cope with storm No. 12. Da Nang City authorities have also asked distribution units to double their stockpiles of goods, and closely monitor to prevent hoarding and price increases during storms.

In addition to shopping, many households also took advantage of the cool weather to check their roofs, reinforce windows, clean up belongings, and trim trees. Households in low-lying areas also prepared clean water, medicine, spare batteries, and lighting.

On the afternoon of October 21, despite heavy rain, Da Nang residents were still busy shopping for essential goods at traditional markets, preparing to cope with storm No. 12.

According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Da Nang City, the entire distribution system, supermarkets and wholesale markets in the area have been asked to increase the amount of goods stocked by 2-3 times, ensuring adequate supply and stable prices during the storm. The Market Management Force has increased inspections and strictly handled acts of hoarding and price hikes.

The dispatch of the People's Committee of Da Nang City on October 21 said that due to the influence of the circulation of storm No. 12 combined with cold air, from the night of October 22 to October 27, the city is likely to have very heavy rain, with a total amount of 350-600mm, in some places exceeding 800mm; there is a high risk of flooding and landslides. The city requested localities to immediately deploy evacuation plans, arrange rescue forces and ask people to proactively stock up on food for 3 days to prevent flooding and isolation due to the storm.
