The Ministry of Industry and Trade is preparing to implement a new roadmap for the use of biofuel in Vietnam, with the goal of switching to E10 biofuel (mixing 10% ethanol into mineral gasoline) nationwide. The Ministry is consulting to submit to the Government a roadmap for the use of E10 gasoline, expected to be implemented from January 1, 2026.
Vietnam National Petroleum Group ( Petrolimex ) and Vietnam Oil Corporation (PV Oil) - the two largest petroleum companies in the country, said they will pilot the sale of E10 gasoline from August 1.
Specifically, Petrolimex will pilot E10 gasoline sales at 36 gas stations in Ho Chi Minh City (before the merger) to evaluate the market and the possibility of practical implementation.
Similarly, PV Oil also piloted the sale of E10 RON95 bio-fuel at gas stations in Hanoi and Hai Phong. After the pilot phase, the company will continue to upgrade, convert and develop E10 gasoline sales points; ready to implement the roadmap for using E10 gasoline from January 1, 2026.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Nam - Member of the Board of Directors, Deputy General Director of Petrolimex - said that trading E10 gasoline requires serious preparation of infrastructure, technology, specialized tanks for fuel alcohol and close coordination from oil refineries.
This enterprise proposed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade soon give instructions on the implementation progress, so that key traders can proactively invest and convert the technical system, and at the same time propose to adjust some technical standards of the current TCVN to suit the mineral gasoline sources on the international market and be similar to the technical standard requirements in the region.

Mr. Cao Hoai Duong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of PV Oil, also said that the company has long invested in biofuel blending facilities at warehouses, including both main and transit warehouses. According to Mr. Duong, the company's pilot implementation of selling E10 gasoline from August 1 is to help customers gradually get used to the new fuel, avoiding "shock" during the transition process.
E10 gasoline is a finished gasoline product blended from mineral gasoline derived from fossil fuels along with biofuels, in which fuel alcohol is blended in a certain ratio.
According to domestic and international studies, ethanol has a high oxygen content, which helps improve the combustion process of the fuel mixture; therefore, E10 gasoline can help reduce carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions by up to 20% compared to traditional mineral gasoline.
Reduced emissions mean less air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions - one of the main causes of global climate change. Not only is it beneficial for the environment, E10 is also considered an engine-friendly fuel.
