On May 14, at the Nam Dan District Sports and Physical Training Stadium, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nghe An province coordinated with the Department of Physical Training and Sports (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) and the Vietnam Wrestling Federation to organize the opening ceremony of the 29th National Wrestling Championship in 2025.
This year's tournament has 17 delegations of athletes from provinces, cities, and sectors with strong traditional wrestling movements in the country such as: Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Bac Ninh, Hanoi , Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Army, Nghe An... Nearly 200 wrestlers will compete in 18 weight classes from 48kg to 130kg with 230 matches.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Tran Thi My Hanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Nghe An province, emphasized that in Nam Dan, King Mai Thuc Loan, also known as Mai Hac De, chose Nam Dan as his headquarters and raised the flag of uprising.
Legend has it that Mai Hac De was a person who loved wrestling and taught it to his soldiers to repel the invaders. Nowadays, traditional wrestling activities are held in many localities and have become a unique cultural feature that attracts many people and tourists from all over the world.
This National Ethnic Wrestling Championship is held in May, part of the series of events of the 2025 Lotus Village Festival program.
In addition, the tournament contributes to preserving and promoting the unique traditional cultural values of the nation; encouraging martial spirit, indomitable will; arousing pride, love for the homeland, country and Vietnamese people. The tournament lasts until May 18.
The 2025 Lotus Village Festival will take place from May 10 to 19 in Vinh City and Nam Dan District (Nghe An Province) on a national scale with many rich and unique activities to celebrate the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025)./.
