1. Located in front of the Opera House, August Revolution Square (Trang Tien Ward, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi City) is a historical site associated with the revolution to regain independence for the Vietnamese people after a long period under French colonial rule. |
Going back in history, on the night of August 18, 1945, almost no one in Hanoi slept. The masses of people urgently prepared flags, banners, and placards for the large demonstration organized by the Viet Minh, scheduled to take place the next day. |
Early in the morning of August 19, crowds of people marched from the city gates straight to the Opera House Square. At around 10:30, an unprecedented rally of the revolutionary masses took place in the square. From the podium in front of the Opera House, the Viet Minh representative declared: General uprising! |
After that announcement, the rally at the Opera House Square turned into a show of force and armed activities to seize power, starting a general uprising across the country, leading to the birth of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945. |
2. Located in the middle of the busiest commercial area of Hanoi's Old Quarter, the house at 48 Hang Ngang (Hang Dao Ward, Hoan Kiem District) was originally the Phuc Loi store, one of the largest silk and fabric trading companies in Hanoi. The owners of the house at that time were Mr. Trinh Van Bo and Mrs. Hoang Thi Minh Ho. |
During the early days of the August Revolution in 1945, the house at 48 Hang Ngang was the workplace of the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh. This was also the first place President Ho Chi Minh stayed in the early days of his return to Hanoi. |
In this house, Uncle Ho made decisions of great historical significance to the Vietnamese people. In particular, in a small room on the second floor, he wrote the Declaration of Independence , the document that gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam on September 2, 1945. |
Today, this historical site still preserves many artifacts associated with the important event of the nation on September 2, 1945, such as the round table Uncle Ho used when drafting the Declaration of Independence, the large meeting table where the Declaration of Independence was adopted... |
3. Located on Hung Vuong Street, Ba Dinh District, Ba Dinh Square was formed in the late 19th century and is the largest and most famous square in Vietnam. |
At this historic square, on September 2, 1945, President of the Provisional Revolutionary Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence giving birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam. |
Ba Dinh Square is also home to the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum - the resting place of the revolutionary, a great patriot who devoted his life to the struggle to regain independence and freedom for the Vietnamese people. |
On important anniversaries of Vietnam, especially President Ho Chi Minh's birthday on May 19 and National Day on September 2, Ba Dinh Square is a place of origin for tens of thousands of people from all over the country. |
