Cunha could replace Dorgu. |
The absence of the young Danish player presents manager Michael Carrick with a difficult personnel dilemma, especially considering Dorgu has just experienced his best period since joining Old Trafford.
Originally a left-back, Dorgu had previously been used as a right winger drifting inwards. However, Carrick surprised everyone by deploying him as a pure left winger in his debut match.
That belief was quickly rewarded with truly explosive performances. Dorgu scored consecutively against Man City and Arsenal. However, an injury last weekend halted the 21-year-old's progress, forcing MU to look for a replacement.
Carrick currently has four notable options for the left flank. Amad Diallo could be used in this role, while Bryan Mbeumo has the speed, acceleration, and versatility to adequately replace Dorgu.
Matheus Cunha, originally brought in with the intention of playing on the left wing, is in excellent form and is considered the most natural option. In addition, Mason Mount, despite being used sparingly recently, has experience playing on the left wing from his time at Chelsea.
Overall, Cunha is considered the optimal choice for MU in the coming period, especially against opponents like Fulham or West Ham when the team needs more creativity in tight spaces.
With Cunha on the left wing, Carrick could maintain the same tactical structure, placing his trust in Mbeumo as the central striker, Amad on the right wing, and Bruno Fernandes behind him, while Mount or Sesko are ready to make an impact from the bench.
On the evening of February 1st, MU will host Fulham at Old Trafford in the 24th round of the Premier League.
