The Hang Trong Comic Exhibition includes 40 paintings from 10 comic book sets, which are familiar ancient stories in the cultural and spiritual life of Vietnamese people.
The age of the paintings displayed at the Hang Trong Painting Exhibition is believed by artist and researcher Phan Ngoc Khue to have been created from the 19th century until before 1945, and is now more than 100 years old.

Hang Trong paintings are divided into many types such as worship paintings, daily life paintings, nature paintings, comic paintings, and Tet paintings. In which, comic paintings are drawn based on ancient stories.
The highlight of the paintings in the Hang Trong Painting collection is the aesthetic value, the sophistication of woodblock printing techniques, color mixing techniques, and especially the crystallization of humanistic values and unique cultural identity of the ancient capital people.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Vietnam Women's Museum Nguyen Thi Tuyet said that for the ancient Hanoians , Hang Trong folk paintings were an indispensable spiritual food and an elegant hobby. Each Hang Trong painting at the exhibition exudes a lively, delicate, subtle, and profound quality in both content and form, representing the unique folk visual arts of Vietnam.
“Faced with the decline, risk of loss and challenges and difficulties of folk paintings in today's life, I hope the event is a great opportunity for the public to admire and feel more clearly the beauty and value of a famous painting genre of Hanoi,” Ms. Tuyet emphasized.

Painter Phan Ngoc Khue, who has worked for many years in the Vietnam Folk Arts Association and the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, said that Hang Trong paintings are one of the unique folk painting genres, bearing the cultural imprint of Thang Long - Hanoi, a precious heritage of the Vietnamese people.
"But perhaps it has been a long time since audiences have had the opportunity to see this type of painting again. Hang Trong paintings have a history dating back hundreds of years. All stages of creating a painting must be done carefully, meticulously and skillfully to achieve high quality," artist Phan Ngoc Khue shared.
Within the framework of the event, artist and researcher Phan Ngoc Khue also presented the Vietnam Women's Museum with a set of paintings of Zhaojun paying tribute to Ho .
"The series of paintings of Zhaojun paying tribute to the Hu is one of the works of great social value. The female characters depicted in the series are all heroic women, examples of loyalty, filial piety, chastity, and righteousness, helping to educate about beautiful personalities that every society needs to cultivate and build for contemporary people," said artist Phan Ngoc Khue.

Visiting the exhibition, Ms. Chu Thuy Quynh (residing in Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) expressed: "I am very happy that in today's modern life, I still have the opportunity to admire the masterpieces of a precious painting genre - Hang Trong paintings. The strokes not only carry the traditional character of ancient Hang Trong, simple and not sharp, but also interweave modern beauty in them.
I am quite pleased to see foreign visitors coming to the exhibition to enjoy and accept traditional Vietnamese paintings. These are positive signals for the younger generation to promote the preservation and maintenance of this folk beauty.”
The Hang Trong Comic Exhibition takes place from March 18 to 31 at the Vietnamese Women's Museum, 36 Ly Thuong Kiet, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi.
