On June 6, information from the People's Committee of Tam Giang commune, Nam Can district ( Ca Mau ) said that a serious landslide had just occurred in the area, affecting 5 houses of local people, causing damage of nearly 500 million VND.
At around 0:20 a.m. the same day, a landslide on the Kinh 17 riverbank caused two houses and a crane dock of Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh to sink into the river. Initial damage was estimated at around 250 million VND.
Nearby, four other houses were also partially collapsed into the river by landslides, with damage of nearly 100 million VND/household.
The landslide is more than 20m long, with some sections going more than 15m into the mainland.
Because the landslide occurred late at night, people did not have time to move important items in their homes, leading to great property damage.
The Kinh 17 River section in Nam Can District has strong currents and large tidal amplitudes. Low tide combined with heavy rain causes rainwater to flow through cracks, leading to landslides.
About a month ago, also in the Kinh 17 market area, a landslide occurred, causing two houses to completely collapse into the river and two houses to partially collapse. The total estimated damage was over 140 million VND.
Previously, on June 4, thunderstorms and tornadoes also damaged 31 houses in Tran De district, Soc Trang province./.
