5 Vietnamese female students receive full scholarships to study STEM in the UK

The scholarship is part of two UK ASEAN programmes SAGE (Supporting the Advancement of Girls'Education ) and the British Council Women in STEM Scholarship.

Both scholarship programs aim to address gender disparities in access to education in the fields of science , technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

5 Vietnamese female students receive Women in STEM Scholarship (2024), including:

ASEAN-UK SAGE STEM Scholarship for Women : Lam Ngoc Ngan - Master of Interdisciplinary Biology, University of Warwick; Nguyen Ha Phuong Thao - Master of Engineering Business Management, University of Warwick.

British Council STEM Scholarships for Women : Nguyen Vu Tuong Linh - Master of Business Innovation and Entrepreneurship, University of Bristol; Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy - Master of Environmental Policy and Management, University of Bristol; Truong Ngoc Mai - Master of Science Communication for a Better Planet, University of Bristol.

These talented individuals share their passion and vision for making a difference through STEM, a field where women are often underrepresented. Women make up just 29.2% of the global STEM workforce, despite making up nearly half of non-STEM jobs (World Economic Forum).

For both the ASEAN-UK SAGE programme and the British Council Women in STEM programme, each scholar will receive a full scholarship to complete a master’s degree at a prestigious UK university, starting in September 2024.

The two scholarship programs will reopen for applications in January 2025.

* The inaugural ASEAN-UK SAGE STEM Scholarship for Women from all ASEAN Member States is now open to eligible female students from ASEAN Member States and Timor-Leste. This year, 12 outstanding female students have received this scholarship.

* The British Council Women in STEM Scholarships are open to women from South Asia, East Asia, Greater Europe and the Americas. Now in its fourth year, the programme has awarded over 100 full scholarships worldwide. This year, the scholarships are available to 12 scholars from ASEAN countries. The scholarships cover the full cost of studying for a master’s degree or post-doctoral fellowship at a UK university.
