Quang Ninh Port collective housing area at Group 5, Area 1, Hong Gai Ward was identified as a grade D degraded structure - a particularly dangerous level when the storm makes landfall. On July 20, the Border Guard Station at Hon Gai Port coordinated with the authorities to mobilize and organize the reception and accommodation for more than 20 households with more than 40 residents living in the collective housing area to take shelter from the storm.
Lieutenant Colonel Tay Van Thai, Political Commissar of the Border Guard Station of Hon Gai Port, Border Guard Command, Provincial Military Command said: The Quang Ninh Port housing complex is located opposite the unit, so from early on, we had a plan to arrange within the unit's possible conditions, arrange rooms for officers and soldiers and a conference hall to welcome and ensure accommodation and living conditions in stormy weather.
Hong Gai Ward has 32 households with 100 residents in the dangerous area, requiring urgent evacuation. By the afternoon of July 21, all of these households had been evacuated to a safe place and were provided with free accommodation during the storm.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, group 5, area 1, Hong Gai ward shared: My family has 2 small children, and there is also an elderly person downstairs. Last year, before Typhoon Yagi made landfall, we had not yet seen the level of danger caused by the storm causing the risk of house collapse. However, because last year's storm was too strong, with the level of degradation becoming more and more serious, today, when the government persuaded us, we told each other to move. The border guards were very attentive, welcomed us very warmly, and also provided us with plenty of food and water, showing the close relationship between the army and the people.
Also since last year's storm No. 3, people's awareness has changed, most of them are no longer as subjective as before. Realizing the danger level of this year's storm No. 3, people in areas at high risk of landslides, flooding, or roof loss all agreed when receiving the mobilization of functional forces and local authorities, ready to move to a safe place.
As one of the 52 households in the dangerous area that had to be urgently evacuated, Ms. Do Thi Huong, Group 16, Ha Trung 2 area, Ha Lam ward shared: Last year, my house had its roof blown off, and my family was inside the house at that time, which was very dangerous. Although the roof has been rebuilt, I am not assured about the safety level. Therefore, this year, when the government encouraged me, my two children and I went to the neighborhood cultural house to take shelter from the storm. I found everything here very good. The people in the neighborhood provided us with enough food and water. I was very touched.
Proactive response, timely evacuation of people to safe places, smooth coordination between the government and functional forces, as well as people's awareness will contribute to minimizing risks and ensuring absolute safety in high-risk conditions due to storms.
