On the afternoon of June 5, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) held a press conference to provide information on the activities of the Ministry and the MIC sector in May 2023 and the plan to implement the Ministry's key tasks in the coming time.
A representative of the Ministry of Information and Communications said that the total revenue of the industry is estimated at VND 276,769 billion, up 5% compared to the previous month (April 2023: VND 263,299 billion) and down 2% compared to the same period last year (May 2022: VND 282,254 billion). The total revenue of the industry by the end of May 2023 is estimated at VND 1,363,227 billion.
At the same time, the estimated state budget contribution is: 7,564 billion VND, up 1% compared to the previous month (April 2023: 7,521 billion VND) and down 9% compared to the same period last year (May 2022: 8,304 billion VND). The total budget contribution of the whole industry up to the end of May 2023 is estimated at 39,497 billion VND.
In the postal sector, in May 2023, the market was basically stable compared to April 2023, with postal service revenue estimated at VND 4,680 billion, an estimated increase of 3% compared to April 2023 and an increase of 7.6% compared to May 2022. Output was estimated at 199 million postal items (an increase of 4% compared to April 2023 and an increase of about 20% compared to May 2022).
The number of registered and operating digital technology enterprises increased by 200 enterprises compared to April 2023.
Regarding the ICT industry, the Ministry of Information and Communications said that the number of registered digital technology enterprises is still increasing steadily. The number of registered and operating digital technology enterprises is estimated to reach 71,500 by the end of May 2023, an increase of 200 enterprises compared to April 2023, reaching 0.72 digital technology enterprises/1,000 people.
Also in May 2023, the total number of downloads of mobile applications in Vietnam was 278 million, an increase of 1.09% over the same period last year. Direct revenue from transactions on mobile applications increased by 9.82% over the same period in 2022. The number of applications with over 10 million users had a total of 07 applications (Zalo, Zing Mp3, Bao Moi, Vi Momo, MB Bank, VNEID, My Viettel) and 11 applications with 5 to 10 million users. Notably, the 2 applications developed by State agencies that are most used by users are VssID and VNeID.
Also at the press conference, the Ministry of Information and Communications informed that in the telecommunications sector, in May, the highlight was the standardization of subscriber information. Accordingly, 2.85 million subscribers were standardized out of a total of 3.84 million subscribers in the group with information that needed to be standardized after cross-checking with the national population database. More than 985 thousand subscribers were revoked due to failure to standardize according to regulations.
In addition, the Ministry of Information and Communications coordinated with the Asia-Pacific Telecommunications Organization (APT) to organize the 31st APT Radiocommunication Group Conference (AWG-31); organized 82 inspection delegations to inspect the implementation of the law on the management of information of terrestrial mobile telecommunications subscribers nationwide.
The objective of this large-scale inspection focuses on strictly handling the situation of taking advantage of and using other people's information to register subscriber SIMs; the situation of intentionally registering many subscriber SIMs to circulate on the market but not transferring the right to use; organizing auctions of the right to use frequencies for the A1 band (2300-2330 MHz) in the 2300-2400 MHz band...
On May 15, May 25 and June 2, 2023, the Ministry of Information and Communications organized an auction of the 2300MHz band including 3 frequency blocks A1 (2300-2330 MHz), A2 (2330-2360 MHz), A3 (2360-2390 MHz).

However, by the deadline for submitting registration documents to participate in the auction of each block A1, A2, A3, no enterprise had submitted documents and paid the deposit to register to participate in the auction. Therefore, the auctions for the right to use frequencies for the A1, A2, A3 frequency bands were unsuccessful.
Regarding the press and media sector, the Ministry of Information and Communications said it will continue to work with Apple to remove infringing games and applications in Vietnam.

Authorized by the Prime Minister, on the morning of June 2, at the 5th Session of the 15th National Assembly, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung presented the Proposal on the draft Law on Telecommunications (amended) to amend and supplement inappropriate and overlapping regulations and eliminate inappropriate regulations.
It affirms that digital infrastructure is essential, ensuring network information security is key, prioritizing rapid development investment, being one step ahead, and the Party's policies and resolutions of the National Assembly and the Government .
