Vietnam karate team won 3 gold medals at the Asian tournament. |
On the afternoon of May 25, the Vietnamese karate team won the gold medal in the women's team kumite event. Dinh Thi Huong, Hoang Thi My Tam, Nguyen Thi Ngoan and Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly defeated the Kazakhstan team in the final match.
This is the third gold medal of the Vietnamese team at the Asian Championship (held in Uzbekistan from May 23 to 25). Previously, Vietnamese athletes won two gold medals in the women's kumite 55 kg category (Hoang Thi My Tam) and women's team kata (Nguyen Ngoc Tram, Nguyen Thi Phuong, Hoang Thi Thu Uyen and Bui Ngoc Nhi).
In the women's kata event, Nguyen Ngoc Tram won the bronze medal.
At the end of 3 days of competition in Tashkent, the Vietnamese karate team won 3 gold medals and 1 bronze medal. Hoang Thi My Tam and her teammates ranked third in the overall ranking, just behind the host Kazakhstan (4 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 5 bronze medals) and Japan (3 gold medals, 5 silver medals, 4 bronze medals).
All three gold medals won by the Vietnamese team at the 2025 Asian Championship are in their strong events. At the most recent SEA Games (held in 2023), Vietnamese athletes also won gold medals in the corresponding events.
Looking ahead to the 33rd SEA Games taking place later this year, Hoang Thi My Tam - the only athlete to win a gold medal in the individual event for the Vietnamese team at this Asian tournament - is still one of the main hopes. At the 32nd SEA Games, she won the 55 kg weight class after defeating Cok Sanistyarani (Indonesia) in the final.
