This is the number reported by Sensor Tower, a platform that measures application metrics, in its latest report on AI apps in 2025. The data is collected through two platforms: the App Store on iOS and the Play Store on Android.

Vietnamese people using AI apps skyrocketed

According to the statistics company, users worldwide spent 15.6 billion hours using AI apps in the first half of this year, equivalent to 86 million hours per day. This figure is nearly double that of the second half of 2024, and nearly four times that of the same period last year.

Compared to the world, the growth rate of time spent using AI apps by Vietnamese people is much higher. In 18 consecutive months (from January 2024), the usage time of Vietnamese users increased from 36.2 million hours (first half of 2024) to 101 million hours (second half of 2024), then reached 283 million hours (first half of 2025), equivalent to an increase of 180% after each statistic.

Comparing the number of downloads, it can be seen that Vietnamese people are using AI apps more often. In the same period, the number of downloads only grew by 70% and 98%.

AI applications are still a source of revenue with good growth. In the most recent statistics (first half of 2025), total revenue from AI applications in Vietnam reached 7.49 million USD , an increase of more than 110% compared to the previous period.

Among the most downloaded AI apps in Vietnam, it is not surprising that ChatGPT is still in the number 1 position. In the same Asia- Pacific region (APAC), China, where ChatGPT is very difficult to access, is the only country where this app is not at the top.

In addition to the AI apps of the big guys, AI Hay, a Vietnamese startup, is also on the list of most downloaded apps in the domestic market. This is a Q&A and information aggregation app in Vietnamese. Recently, AI apps of Vietnamese companies like AI Hay or Viettel have shown their superiority with specific content, for example, looking up address information after a city-province merger.

In the list of best revenue generating apps, it is worth noting that in addition to apps from big companies with models like ChatGPT, Grok or Claude, Vietnamese people spend a lot of money on AI synthesis apps like ChatNow, Monica AI or image and video creation apps like Kling AI.

According to a report by the National Innovation Center (NIC), Vietnam has 27% of the total number of AI startups born in ASEAN. Vietnamese AI startups have raised 780 million USD in capital by 2024. This figure ranks second in the region, only after Singapore.

Who uses AI the most?

Despite the growing user base of AI, young men are still the most frequent users of AI apps, according to Sensor Tower. In the US, for example, nearly 70% of ChatGPT users are men, of which 64% are under 35.

However, the group of apps related to confiding like PolyBuzz or Character AI, chat apps with AI characters, are popular with women.

Sensor Tower’s data also shows interesting connections. For example, Meta AI users are 20-30% more likely to use social media apps like Facebook, Threads, X, and LinkedIn than the average user. Cryptocurrency users are also much more likely to use AI apps than the average person.

On average, users open ChatGPT 13 times per month, which is similar to apps like X or Reddit. This number is even higher than Meta's Threads social network, which only opens 9-10 times per month. High-frequency apps like Google only open 18 times per month, showing that users are increasingly familiar and comfortable using ChatGPT.

“AI is changing user expectations, with personalized and predictive experiences becoming more and more familiar,” Sensor Tower, using ChatGPT itself, summarized its report.
