Agribank - For a green future, from a movement to the goal of "Sustainable Development"

Over the past 65 years, the Tet tree planting movement to forever remember Uncle Ho has become a cultural feature that has spread widely across the country. Responding to Uncle Ho's call, on every step of the journey "For a Green Future", every year, Agribank has been implementing many activities of planting trees and giving out seedlings throughout the system with the hope and desire for a future with a green living environment, no more erosion, flash floods... contributing to supporting people's livelihoods and for the goal of "Sustainable Development".

Nurturing green seeds for the future

On the occasion of the beginning of the Year of the Dragon 2024, on the morning of February 17, in Khon Pat village, Mai Pha commune, Lang Son city, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, Lang Son Branch (Agribank Lang Son) coordinated with the People's Committee of Mai Pha commune and the Lang Son City Youth Union to present 10,000 seedlings (including 2,000 acacia trees; 8,000 eucalyptus and pine trees) to 16 disadvantaged families in Khon Pat village and Binh Cam village, Mai Pha commune. This is an activity demonstrating Agribank's sense of responsibility to the community in protecting the environment, responding to climate change, contributing to improving the environment, improving the quality of life, and supporting the livelihoods of local people.

Previously, on the 6th day of the Giap Thin Lunar New Year (February 15, 2024), in Quang La Commune, Ha Long City, the Youth Union of Agribank Quang Ninh Branch participated in the launching ceremony of the Tree Planting Festival "Eternally Grateful to Uncle Ho in the Spring of Giap Thin 2024" organized by the Quang Ninh Provincial Youth Union. At the program, the Youth Union of Agribank Quang Ninh planted and presented 1,000 green lim trees to the locality.

Giving trees to local people in the first days of the new year is considered one of the practical and meaningful activities, contributing to increasing the forest coverage rate, creating local environmental landscapes, ensuring a green - clean - beautiful ecological environment... Besides, supporting seedlings helps local people promote the development of the forest economy, increase production, and escape poverty.

Responding to the program "Agribank For a Green Future", "Greening the Office", since 2020, Agribank Binh Dinh has organized the implementation of the program "Greening the working environment". Entering the 4th year, with the desire to widely spread the effectiveness and meaning of the program, aiming to bring a sense of comfort, creating motivation to improve work efficiency, the branch union has organized the Video Clip creation contest "Greening the working environment" to 13 affiliated grassroots unions. Through the contests, the grassroots unions have taken advantage of the empty spaces of the agency from the corner of the yard, balcony, corridor to create lovely small gardens with green trees and fresh flowers. Many green spaces have become relaxing spots for union members and workers after each working hour.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyen - Deputy Director, Chairman of Agribank Binh Dinh Trade Union assessed: The emulation movement has initially brought positive results, enthusiastically responded by the base and union members, and gained high consensus from employers, thereby creating an environmentally friendly lifestyle and motivation for each union member to perform well the assigned tasks.

"For a green future" - Agribank and the banking industry contribute to the successful implementation of the National Strategy on green economy adapting to climate change and sustainable development

After more than 4 years of synchronous implementation of the campaign "Agribank For a Green Future", the campaign is gradually putting on "green coats" across the S-shaped strip of land. Millions of trees and seeds have been sown by Agribank in all provinces and cities across the country. More broadly, Agribank's green capital for fields, forests, borders, and islands is also a journey for a green future across the country.

“Agribank For a Green Future” has been and is the consistent goal from awareness to action of nearly 40,000 Agribank staff across the system, to join hands with the banking industry to successfully implement Vietnam's national strategy on green economy adapting to climate change and sustainable development.

From financial resources and the response of staff and employees throughout the system, in 2023, Agribank supported more than 500 billion VND to implement social security activities, focusing on the fields of education, health; building houses of gratitude, solidarity houses; poverty reduction; gratitude; overcoming the consequences of natural disasters...

From movement to implementation of "Sustainable Development"

Agribank capital supports the development of clean agricultural products and agricultural products meeting OCOP standards

With the goal of greening banking activities, promoting green credit growth, managing environmental and social risks in credit granting activities, aiming at sustainable development, over the past years, Agribank has been focusing on prioritizing capital sources, effectively expanding lending to projects and programs for production and business development, especially programs and projects that create added value, clean energy, and high-tech agriculture. Recently, Agribank has allocated VND 15,000 billion to finance investment projects in 6 key sectors and projects in the green sector. This incentive program is one of the activities that Agribank has actively implemented to support capital flows for green, environmentally friendly projects, thereby bringing common benefits to the whole community.

In fact, from Agribank's capital, many large-scale agricultural production model programs, applying high technology have been and are being formed in all regions of the country. Agribank is also one of the banks that continuously allocate capital to support loans for renewable energy, wind power, and solar power projects. Green capital sources that protect the environment and are positive for society have supported many renewable energy projects that continue to be maintained and developed, such as the solar power project in Phong Dien (Thua Thien Hue province), solar power in Ninh Thuan, wind power in Bac Lieu, Ham Thuan Nam, etc.

Pioneering with the banking industry to successfully implement Vietnam's national strategies on "green" economy adapting to climate change and sustainable development, closely following the program "solving plastic and nylon pollution" launched by the Prime Minister and the United Nations, Agribank has deployed many programs and activities associated with the message "for a green future" such as: launching the emulation movement "say no to plastic waste", "say no to smoking", "preserve a green, clean, beautiful working environment", "join hands to clean the marine environment", responding to the tree planting movement...

With a focus on green development and sustainable development, in addition to the tree planting program, Agribank also actively implements internal activities to instill awareness of ESG standards in its staff. From saving ink, electricity and water, planting trees at offices, converting business models to digital platforms, operating paperless offices, promoting initiatives to convert to clean energy, renewable energy, saving electricity, recycling and reuse, ... to accompanying in volunteer programs or community campaigns such as blood donation, tree planting, cleaning up the landscape and environment ... all have the active participation of Agribank staff.

The campaign "Agribank For a Green Future - More Trees, More Life" not only adds green shields to protective forests and more livelihoods for people, but is also an effort of Agribank for the goal of green and sustainable development.

With a strong staff of nearly 40,000 people, joining hands to act for the environment through practical actions, Agribank believes it will contribute to the country's goal of green and sustainable development.
