Billionaire Musk's new AI has a rebellious personality

"Grok is designed to answer questions with a bit of humor and a rebellious streak. So please don't use it if you hate humor," xAI, billionaire Elon Musk's artificial intelligence startup, said in an announcement on the X platform (formerly Twitter).

Grok is xAI's first AI model, announced on November 4 (local time).

The event comes nearly a year after OpenAI's ChatGPT went viral, sparking a wave of adoption of synthetic AI technology.

Billionaire Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015 but left the company's board in 2018.

Grok uses a large language model called Grok-1, which was developed on the 33 billion parameter Grok-0 prototype. Grok-0 was built shortly after Elon Musk founded the company xAI in July this year.

xAI says Grok can answer almost anything and can even suggest questions to ask.

“ Grok can answer tough questions that most other AI systems reject. However, it will also refuse to answer illegal questions,” xAI informed, emphasizing that Grok's difference and advantage is that it “has real-time knowledge of the world ” through the X platform.

“Grok is still an early-stage product, but it’s the best we could come up with after two months of training,” xAI added.

It is one of the fastest generative AIs to train. xAI added that Grok will be improved every week with user support.

xAI's development team brings together staff from DeepMind, OpenAI, Google Research, Microsoft Research, Tesla, and researchers at the University of Toronto.

Grok AI will initially only be available to subscribers of the X platform's Premium+ plan.

Last week, the X platform rolled out two new subscription plans, with a $16-per-month premium plan for users willing to pay for an ad-free experience and a $3-per-month basic plan.
