The My Son Cultural Heritage Management Board (My Son Management Board) said that last weekend, Mr. Sandeep Arya, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Vietnam, visited and worked at My Son. Mr. Sandeep Arya directly visited the restoration site of tower groups E and F, which is being carried out by Vietnamese and Indian experts, and spent a lot of time discussing with experts about the historical and cultural values of groups E and F and the conservation and restoration work.

At the same time, many compliments were given to the local workforce, an important partner in the successful implementation of the restoration work. With the guidance of Indian experts, the local workforce, who are skilled workers with experience from previous restorations, cleaned, cleared, and scientifically separated the overall area of Group F and E, coordinated smoothly and supported the experts in performing the restoration and conservation work.

The Group E and F conservation project was officially launched in May 2025 with the support of Indian and Vietnamese experts. The project has a total value of 4.852 million USD from non-refundable aid from the Government of India, with the support of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), and the implementation period is from 2025 to 2029.

According to the plan, the project includes components for conservation and restoration of groups F and E; drainage systems and walkways around groups F and E. The restoration process is mainly carried out according to the reinforcement plan, firmly preserving the original elements, ensuring authenticity.

Mr. Nguyen Cong Khiet, Director of My Son Management Board, said that the EF group is a complex of architectural ruins with special historical and cultural value of the My Son world heritage site.

However, this group of temples and towers is still in a state of ruin after the war. This project is very necessary to preserve and restore the architecture and original elements remaining after the war, aiming at the important goal of preserving the original elements of the heritage, continuing to identify the hidden value of the My Son World Heritage.

After nearly two months of implementation, the work that has been done shows great efforts from both sides. Experts from ASI, Vietnamese experts, and My Son Management Board have closely coordinated in preparation and restoration work.

The project has cleared the site, collected artifacts and broken bricks; and uncovered the walls surrounding the architectural works of the two tower groups E and F. Initially, very positive results have been achieved when starting the restoration of works such as gate F2, gate E2, the western wall of group EF and preparing to start the restoration of E3. The restoration work ensures the principles of preserving the original elements of the monument.

In the immediate future, in 2025, the project will focus on the urgent restoration of towers F1, F2 and F3. Initial findings during the scientific dismantling and cleaning of the ruins of tower groups E and F show that the towers are all built of bricks, stacked on top of each other, without traces of mortar. This solution is thoroughly applied during the restoration process to best preserve the original values of the monument.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tho, Head of the Conservation and Museum Department (My Son Management Board) said that both groups of EF towers had been excavated twice before. The first excavation from 1903-1904 was conducted by the French School of the Far East; the second excavation from 2002-2003 was conducted by the Vietnam Institute of Archaeology.

However, only one structure, the E7 tower, was restored later. The EF group is one of the earliest Shiva worshipping architectural complexes, dating from the 7th-8th century to the 10th-11th century, and is an important testament to the development of architecture and artistic sculpture in the My Son Temple Complex in particular and Champa in general.
