The relationship between the two parties, therefore, remains honest and transparent. CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues entrusted the negotiations to businessman Diego Fernandes, who was always accompanied by a Spanish representative – Alvaro Costa, a man with many connections in Brazil.

They, along with two people close to Ancelotti, directly conducted the negotiations. Diego Fernandes's appearance in the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal, and then the Copa del Rey final - where a photo agency paid more than 330 USD just to have his picture in the stands - proved that the negotiations were progressing.

The meetings were mostly lunches or dinners. Most were held in Madrid. Only one meeting took place in London on April 28, after which there were rumours that the talks had broken down – which was not true.

In fact, most of the documents were only drafted from that meeting. The contract specified Ancelotti's salary as $10 million for a year of work, from now until the end of the 2026 World Cup, with an option to extend.

Special contract

Ancelotti has become the highest paid coach among national team coaches today, surpassing Thomas Tuchel - about 6 million USD when leading the England team.

Not only that, the important thing is the contract appendix. For the next year, Ancelotti has the right to use a private jet whenever he wants to travel.

At the same time, the 65-year-old coach was given an armored vehicle to ensure safety while traveling with Canarinha.

In recent months, Ancelotti has contacted a number of players such as Casemiro or Neymar to explore the situation, making it easier to take over the team.

According to some sources, quoted by El Mundo, Carletto officially signed the contract last Saturday, before flying to Barcelona to play El Clasico.

Last week, all parties, including Real Madrid, agreed to announce the departure and signing after El Clasico, regardless of the result. This was partly due to the haste of Ednaldo Rodrigues, who is under threat of losing his job due to the risk of a renewed fraud case in 2023.

Rodrigues wanted to announce Ancelotti's appointment before that happened, but Real Madrid changed their mind sometime between last Wednesday and Monday.

More precisely, Perez changed his mind and decided not to publish the pre-prepared statement to say goodbye to the coach with the most trophies in the club's history (15).

Real Madrid hinted that this was a sign of special respect for Ancelotti, because according to Perez, announcing his departure right after the loss to Barcelona was like "blaming" the coach.

Real Madrid and Perez have no grievances with Ancelotti. This made him uncomfortable in the press conference before the Mallorca match. He answered briefly and cautiously.

That is the special thing about Ancelotti. His farewell to Real Madrid was without any controversy, and was not tainted by the media war that Xavi Hernandez is still enduring since being fired by Barca.
