Affected by storm No. 11, Ho Chi Minh City has heavy rain

Heavy rain is forecast for the Ho Chi Minh City area due to the influence of storm No. 11. In the afternoon and evening, there will be showers in many places and scattered thunderstorms, with moderate to heavy rain in some places. During thunderstorms, be on guard against lightning, strong gusts of wind and tornadoes.

According to Mr. Le Dinh Quyet, Head of Hydrometeorological Forecasting Department, Southern Hydrometeorological Station, at 7:00 a.m. on October 4, the center of storm No. 11 (storm Matmo) was at about 18.1 degrees North latitude; 116.9 degrees East longitude, in the sea area east of the North East Sea, about 530km East Northeast of Hoang Sa special zone. The strongest wind near the center of the storm was level 11 (103-117 km/h), gusting to level 14, moving in the West Northwest direction, speed about 25km/h.

Forecasting the impact of storm No. 11, the sea area from Lam Dong to Ca Mau will have southwest winds of level 3-4, wave height from 0.5-1.5m; the sea area from Ca Mau - An Giang - Phu Quoc will have light winds, wave height from 0.25-1.25m. In both sea areas, the weather will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, be on guard against tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

In Ho Chi Minh City, there will be changing clouds, sunny days, showers in many places in the afternoon and evening, scattered thunderstorms, some places will have moderate to heavy rain, during thunderstorms, beware of lightning, strong gusts of wind and tornadoes.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ho Chi Minh City, implementing the direction of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment on proactively responding to storm No. 11, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has requested local departments, branches and units to closely monitor news bulletins and forecasts of the storm's developments; prepare plans to prevent and respond when the storm affects Ho Chi Minh City, especially heavy rain, thunderstorms, and flooding caused by the storm.

Specifically, wards, coastal areas, island communes, Con Dao special zone, the City Border Guard Command, the Fisheries Sub-Department and Fisheries Control deploy plans to ensure safety for people and boats operating on rivers, at sea, in seaport waters and coordinate search and rescue work in the city. Regularly notify vehicle owners of storm developments, strong winds and big waves at sea to proactively prevent.

The Department of Construction of Ho Chi Minh City, the City Irrigation Service Management Company Limited, the Urban Drainage Company Limited, the Urban Infrastructure Management Center of Ho Chi Minh City closely coordinated with the People's Committees of wards, communes, and special zones to effectively operate the sluice gates, drainage culverts, and mobile water pumps to promptly mobilize to overcome flooding incidents caused by heavy rains from the storm. The Ho Chi Minh City Green Parks Company Limited quickly handled incidents of fallen trees caused by the storm; the Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation quickly handled and repaired power lines damaged by storms caused by the storm.

The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism has notified units with passenger ships not to participate in activities on rivers and at sea in dangerous conditions, with big waves and strong winds, and to strictly check measures to ensure safety for tourists on board.

The Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City coordinates with the Department of Construction to notify organizations and individuals to properly brace and reinforce billboards, billboards, etc., to prevent storms and tornadoes; and to limit the organization of outdoor art performances and music stages when there are bad weather warnings from authorities.
