According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, at 7:00 a.m. on December 22, the center of the tropical depression was located at about 6 degrees North latitude; 115.0 degrees East longitude, in the southern sea of the South China Sea. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression was level 6 (from 39 - 49 km/h), gusting to level 8; moving northeast at a speed of about 10 km/h.

Forecast by 7:00 a.m. on December 23, the center of the tropical depression is at about 8.3 degrees North latitude; 114.0 degrees East longitude, in the area south of Truong Sa archipelago. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is level 6-7, gusting to level 9.

Forecast by 7:00 a.m. on December 24, the center of the tropical depression is at about 9.8 degrees North latitude; 111.5 degrees East longitude, in the area west of Truong Sa archipelago. The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is level 7, gusting to level 9.

From the next 48 to 72 hours, the tropical depression moves in the West Northwest direction, traveling 10 - 15 km per hour.
