According to Mr. Mai Van Khiem, Director of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, this morning, August 30, the tropical depression has strengthened into a storm, storm number 6 in the East Sea.
At 7:00 a.m. on August 30, the storm center was about 210 km from Ha Tinh - Northern Quang Tri. It is forecasted that in the next 12 hours, the storm will move in a West-Northwest direction, making landfall in the provinces of Ha Tinh - Northern Quang Tri, then moving to Central Laos, weakening and gradually dissipating.

A representative of the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said that storm No. 6 has the international name Nongfa (named after a lake in Laos).
From noon today, coastal areas from Nghe An to Quang Tri will have winds gradually increasing to level 6, gusting to level 8; inland coastal areas from Ha Tinh to Northern Quang Tri will have winds of level 6-7, near the storm center level 8, gusting to level 10.

Heavy rain will last until tomorrow, August 31, with rainfall of 150-300mm, in some places over 500mm from Thanh Hoa to Hue; the North and Da Nang will have moderate to heavy rain, locally over 300mm.


The Global Weather Forecast System (GFS - USA) said that at around 10:00 am this morning (Vietnam time), the center of the tropical depression will enter the Quang Tri province area. Meanwhile, the US Navy's Joint Typhoon Forecast Center and online forecasting platforms said that the tropical depression is unlikely to strengthen into a storm.
