Apple still maintains a regular schedule of releasing new versions of its iOS mobile platform every year, with iOS 18 expected to launch this coming June. However, a piece of interesting information has just been revealed: it is likely that "Apple" will not continue to launch iOS 19 next year, but instead, the company will introduce iOS version 26.

According to Bloomberg news agency, citing sources close to Apple, "apple" plans to make significant changes to the way it names its iOS mobile platform. Specifically, the names of the versions of this platform will be named according to the year of release, instead of in numerical order as it is now.
Bloomberg 's sources said that this change will start next year, meaning that the iOS operating system launched in 2026 will be called iOS version 26.
This name change will not only apply to the iOS platform, but will be implemented synchronously on all operating systems for other Apple devices.
This includes iPadOS 26 (for iPad tablets), MacOS 26 (for Mac computers, MacBooks), WatchOS 26 (for Apple Watch smartwatches), TVOS 26 (for AppleTV), and VisionOS 26 (for Vision Pro smart glasses).
The renaming of the operating system versions is supposed to bring consistency to Apple's software platforms and eliminate confusion for users. Now users will not have to remember what number the next iOS release will be.
Apple is expected to officially announce the change in the name of its operating systems at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) taking place on June 9.
Before Apple, Microsoft also used the release year to number its Windows operating system versions, although the company later changed its naming scheme.
Samsung also has a similar strategy when from 2020, the company started changing the name of the Galaxy S product line to match the launch year.
Some car manufacturers have also adopted the strategy of naming cars according to the year of launch, helping users easily remember when the product was introduced.
