Arsenal identified Rodrygo as their number 1 target in the summer of 2025.

The Athletic confirmed that coach Mikel Arteta is determined to upgrade the team's attack in the summer transfer window of 2025, in the context that Arsenal is likely to finish the season as runners-up in the Premier League for the third consecutive time.

The source confirmed that the Spanish strategist is particularly fond of Rodrygo, a versatile star who can play both as a striker and a winger. The Brazilian attacker is identified as a key part of the plan to take Arsenal to the top.

Rodrygo had an unimpressive season with "Los Blancos" but managed to leave his mark with 13 goals and 10 assists in all competitions. Spanish media have revealed that Rodrygo has no place under new coach Xabi Alonso. Therefore, the chance for Arsenal to complete the deal is not small.

This season, heavy losses in attack with injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz have greatly affected the Gunners' ambitions in both the Premier League and Champions League. Therefore, adding quality players is considered a top priority.

Arsenal are also keeping tabs on Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres. Arsenal fans were disappointed when the club failed to add a striker in the January 2025 transfer window, which directly affected the season's results. However, Arteta promises a very different 2025 transfer window.

"This will be a big transfer window and we are very excited about it. In the first five summers, our plan was to make important moves with different specific objectives. Now, as we enter a new phase, we want to increase the depth of the squad and improve the quality and skills to take a step forward," the Spaniard shared.
