Pu Luong Nature Reserve is one of the most biodiversity reserves in Thanh Hoa. Not only is it a popular tourist destination, Pu Luong is also home to a diverse ecosystem, with a rich flora and fauna system.

Among them, the system of "giant" green teak trees in the middle of the old forest, hundreds of years old, with great value in terms of genetic resources, has been recognized as "Vietnam Heritage Trees".

Mr. Le Dinh Phuong, Director of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, said that the system of 3 green teak trees ( scientific name Terminalia myriocarpa Henrila), growing naturally in the Muong Mu area (lots 20, 24, 26 - plot 3 - sub-area 53) is located in the ecological restoration subdivision of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, within the administrative boundary of Tan Phuc village (Phu Le commune, old Quan Hoa district, now Phu Le commune, Thanh Hoa province.

These are naturally growing green teak trees, estimated to be between 400 and over 500 years old.

These three green "old trees" have a diameter of D1.3c = 3.03 - 3.34 m; height from 40-45 m, with ages determined from over 400 years old to over 500 years old.

In 2022, the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment decided to recognize the population of 3 green teak trees as "Vietnam Heritage Trees".

The tree has a very large trunk diameter, many people cannot hug it.

According to Mr. Le Dinh Phuong, Director of Pu Luong Nature Reserve, the flora and fauna in Pu Luong is still very rich and diverse.

Pu Luong currently has many primeval forests, with large trees, valuable in terms of genetic resources and natural landscapes.

Thanks to preserving the green ecosystem, community tourism in Pu Luong in recent years has become an attractive destination for tourists, especially international visitors.

According to Mr. Phuong, the recognition of the population of 3 green teak trees as "Vietnam Heritage Trees" contributes to promoting the role of the community in protecting rare plant genetic resources, honoring humanistic values, protecting natural landscapes, and at the same time contributing to building awareness of forest protection and biodiversity conservation in the locality, thereby creating green values and exploiting sustainable community tourism for local people.
