(CLO) Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican candidate Donald Trump are still competing fiercely in 7 battleground states, but a surprise is coming in the "normal" state of Iowa.
According to the latest New York Times/Siena College poll, Vice President Harris has a slight lead in Nevada, North Carolina and Wisconsin, and former President Trump has a slight lead in Arizona. The two are in a close race in Michigan, Georgia and Pennsylvania, according to a survey of 7,879 likely voters in seven states conducted between October 24 and November 2.

In all seven states, the race is within the poll’s 3.5% margin of error. The poll shows that about 40% of respondents have already voted, with Harris leading by 8% among those voters, but Trump leading among those who have not yet voted.
The neck-and-neck race in the battleground state with the largest number of electoral votes, Pennsylvania (19), shows Mr Trump holding a 4% advantage over Ms Harris, the news agency said.
Meanwhile, according to a Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa poll on Saturday, Ms. Harris unexpectedly surpassed Mr. Trump in Iowa, with female voters likely to make a difference in a state that Mr. Trump won easily in 2016 and 2020.
Specifically, the poll shows Ms. Harris leading Mr. Trump 47%-44% in Iowa, which has tended to lean Republican in recent years. This figure is within the margin of error of 3.4%, but marks a change from the September poll when Trump led by 4%.
“The poll shows that women — especially those who are older or politically independent — are driving the shift toward Ms. Harris,” the Register reported.
Mr Trump won Iowa in his previous two presidential campaigns by more than 9% in 2016 and 8% in 2020. Whoever wins Iowa will get 6 electoral votes. A total of 270 votes are needed to win the White House.
Both candidates made final campaign stops in battleground states over the weekend, with Mr Trump appearing in Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Georgia on Sunday, while Ms Harris campaigned in Michigan.
