In the "Trung Vuong" costume performance by designer Nguyen Huy Hoang on the evening of July 30, Bui Ly Thien Huong performed a costume named "Trung Vuong". The story of being inspired by historical figures is encouraging, both honoring culture and praising the heroic history of the nation. "Ba Trung" or "Hai Ba Trung" has gone down in history with the image of riding elephants into battle, making the enemy terrified.
Beautiful costumes, great idea but unfortunately the explanation from the organizers quoted the famous saying of Lady Trieu: "I want to ride the strong wind, step on the fierce waves, kill the whales in the East Sea, take back the country, establish independence, throw off the yoke of slavery, and not bow down to be someone's concubine."
Lady Trieu, also known as Trieu Au, Trieu Trinh Nuong, Trieu Thi Trinh, was born on October 2, Binh Ngo year (226). She and her brother Trieu Quoc Dat raised an army to fight against the Ngo invaders.
The Trung Sisters, Trung Trac and Trung Nhi, were two historical figures about 200 years before Lady Trieu, who raised the flag of uprising against the Eastern Han invaders.
School children often mistake the Trung sisters and Trieu sisters for sisters, but not to the extent of mistaking them for one. Therefore, the above confusion is unacceptable at a cultural event.
Many people who followed this event may have also mistaken Ba Trung for Ba Trieu, especially children. This is where the harm lies.
This is not the first case of historical error in cultural events. For example, the Road to Olympia 2022 contest had a heated debate regarding researcher Le Van Lan's answer to the question "The dethronement and installation of the three kings took place within a year, not in less than 4 months". However, many history books record "four-month three kings" as referring to the three kings of the Nguyen Dynasty, Duc Duc, Hiep Hoa, and Kien Phuc, who took turns on the throne for 4 months.
Returning to the incident of confusing Ba Trung with Ba Trieu, the Miss Grand Vietnam Organizing Committee stopped the live broadcast.
If you are wrong, apologize and everyone can be wrong. But you need to learn from experience, organize cultural events, want to include historical information, the organizers need to have reputable experts to advise and censor before performing or presenting publicly.
Try to ensure accuracy, because when wrong, even if retracted with an apology, the event is still a "grain of sand".
