Bac Giang: 175 customers discovered using electricity for the wrong purpose

To prevent the misuse of electricity, Bac Giang Electricity Company has directed its affiliated power companies to step up inspections of customers with unusual electricity consumption; locations suspected of using electricity at the wrong price to enjoy lower electricity prices than the actual price, such as using electricity for production and business.

In the first 4 months of this year, Bac Giang Electricity Company inspected and discovered 175 cases of customers in districts, towns and cities in the province using electricity for purposes other than those registered, and collected 888 million VND.

On May 9, 2025, the Ministry of Industry and Trade issued Decision No. 1279/QD-BCT regulating new electricity prices (increasing by more than 4% compared to the current average retail electricity price) , in which, retail electricity prices are issued for groups of electricity customers and electricity retailers.

This increase in electricity prices also has certain impacts on large electricity consumers, leading to a high risk of using electricity at the wrong price. Therefore, in the coming time, Bac Giang Electricity Company will implement many drastic and synchronous measures to prevent and combat fraud in calculating electricity prices, avoiding revenue losses for the State.

The representative of Bac Giang Electricity Company informed that the Company requires member power companies to strictly control the application of electricity prices, ensuring compliance with the regulations of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. Any cases of using electricity for the wrong purpose will be recorded and the price difference will be collected according to the law. At the same time, the power companies of districts, towns and cities will update customer information, ensuring that data is managed in accordance with reality, avoiding recurrence of violations.

Along with professional measures, Bac Giang Electricity Company continues to promote propaganda and dissemination of regulations on electricity prices, instructing people to declare information on electricity usage honestly and for the right purpose through many forms such as: Communication on mass media, distributing leaflets, Zalo messages for customer care, propaganda through the loudspeaker system of communes and wards, direct guidance at transaction points...
