Rebuilding Phong Chau pontoon bridge from 10:30 this morning

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Tu - Deputy Brigade Commander of Brigade 249 of the Engineering Command - the unit in charge of Phong Chau pontoon bridge said: At 8:40 a.m. on May 25, the water level of the Red River began to drop, and the flow velocity gradually decreased. Based on the current water level and flow velocity continuing to decrease, it is expected that by about 10:30 a.m. on the same day, the unit will rebuild the bridge to serve the travel needs of the people.

At 5:00 a.m. on May 25, due to the high and fast water level of the Thao River, the bridge could not be built. In addition, the high water level of the river, many trees and obstacles floating on the pontoon bridge also put excessive pressure on the bridge.

According to the leader of Brigade 249, Phong Chau pontoon bridge is installed and anchored to serve the travel of people in conditions of flow velocity of 2.2m/s or less. The bridge operates from 5am to 9pm every day to serve the travel needs of the people. After 9pm, the authorities will cut the bridge to let ships and rafts pass, and at the same time, check and maintain the technical condition of the bridge.
