"I am the doctor in charge of the health and medical care of the U23 Vietnam team. Usually, before the match, I arrange the water bottles neatly and tidily for the players to use.
But at the last minute when the situation is a bit chaotic, the water bottles will not be neat anymore. It is just a coincidence, I do not intend to make it difficult for the other team," Dr. Nguyen Truong An explained.
The situation of U23 Vietnam doctor Nguyen Truong An arranging water bottles along the sidelines during the U23 Southeast Asia final on the evening of July 29 is becoming the center of discussion on social networks. This image spread at a dizzying speed, leading to many speculations about the real purpose of the above action.

Many people believe that this is a deliberate tactic of the U23 Vietnam coaching staff, aiming to limit the extremely strong throw-ins of the U23 Indonesia players - a dangerous weapon of the archipelago team. This hypothesis quickly attracted attention and created a wave of heated debate in the online community.
The ASEAN Football sports site reposted this remarkable situation with the title: “How to stop Indonesia’s dangerous throw-ins”, along with a picture of dozens of water bottles lined up along the technical area of the Vietnamese team at the end of the match.
“Vietnam’s clever tactics became the highlight of the match,” the site commented. “Along the technical area boundary, a row of water bottles was neatly placed, and that was no coincidence.
The aim is to limit the space for Robi to gain momentum, making it impossible for Indonesia to execute their signature throw-ins. The way U23 Vietnam did it was simple but effective and full of tactics.
This information was quickly denied when the U23 Vietnam side confirmed that the arrangement of the water bottles was just random and had no tactical intention aimed at the opponent.
Long throw-ins have long been a powerful weapon for Indonesia. In the national team, defender Pratama Arhan has brought home many goals thanks to his powerful throw-ins.

At the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 tournament, the home team continues to possess a "trump card" in midfielder Robi Darwis, who can make strong and accurate throw-ins from a distance of 40 to 50 meters, creating many dangerous situations in front of the opponent's goal.
However, all throw-in situations on the U23 Indonesia side in the final match on the evening of July 29 were easily resolved by the U23 Vietnam defense.
Doctor Nguyen Truong An and the entire U23 Vietnam team will return home this afternoon (July 30) after finishing the Southeast Asian U23 tournament. His presence throughout the tournament is considered an important contribution, ensuring the physical condition and injury recovery of the players in Coach Kim Sang Sik's squad.
