On May 23, Mr. Tran Thanh Toan, Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Long An , said that on behalf of the Department's Board of Directors, he signed an official dispatch to notify the progress of the Long An I and Long An II LNG Power Plant Project, because recently there was public opinion that the Long An Provincial People's Committee directed specialized agencies to advise on selecting a new investor for this project.
On March 21, 2021, Long An provincial leaders awarded the investment certificate to the representative of VINACAPITAL GS ENERGY PTE.LTD Company.
The official dispatch of the Department of Industry and Trade of Long An province confirmed that currently, the Long An I and Long An II LNG power plant project (located in the Southeast Asia Industrial Park, Can Giuoc District, Long An) is still being implemented by investors in full investment procedures and periodically reporting to the Department of Planning and Investment and the Department of Industry and Trade of Long An province. There is no announcement from the People's Committee of Long An province for investors to submit documents for consideration and selection of suitable investors to implement this project.
According to Mr. Toan, based on the proposal of Long An province, on August 13, 2020, the Prime Minister issued Official Dispatch No. 1080/TTg-CN on fuel conversion and capacity adjustment of Long An I and Long An II thermal power plants from using coal to using imported LNG gas fuel; adjusting the total capacity of the two plants to 3,000 MW. Adjusting the operation schedule of Long An I LNG Gas Power Plant in 2025 - 2026; the operation schedule of Long An II LNG Gas Power Plant is expected before 2035.
In March 2021, the Department of Planning and Investment of Long An granted an investment certificate for the Long An I, II LNG Power Plant Project to VINACAPITAL GS ENERGY PTE.LTD Company with a total expected investment capital of more than 72,000 billion VND, equivalent to more than 3.1 billion USD.
The Department of Industry and Trade has sent an official dispatch requesting the Department of Information and Communications of Long An to inspect and handle organizations and individuals posting false information about the Long An I and Long An II LNG Power Plant Project.
On the same day, Mr. Huynh Cao Chanh, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Long An, said that the Department is reviewing the information related to the Long An I and Long An II LNG Power Plant Project. Initially, it was determined that the information posted on cyberspace related to the Long An I and Long An II LNG Power Plant Project in recent times is inaccurate, misleading and may affect the investment attraction environment of Long An province. The Department will soon issue a direction for handling in accordance with the law for organizations and individuals related to the above false information.
