Can Tho City has "reached the finish line ahead of schedule" in the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, demonstrating a deep sense of responsibility and compassion for the people. Many organizations, businesses, and individuals have joined forces to make the dream of secure housing for tens of thousands of families a reality.

A spirit of determination and responsibility.

The program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses is of great importance and humanity, therefore, Party committees and authorities in Can Tho City are implementing it with the utmost urgency and determination. At the same time, they are focusing resources from the budget and mobilizing contributions from the business community, socio- political organizations, and philanthropists inside and outside the city to jointly carry out the program.

Party committees at all levels, from the city to the communes and wards, have seriously engaged in the effort, not only issuing directives but also directly inspecting the situation on the ground, understanding the conditions of each household, surveying needs and construction conditions, and mobilizing resources for support. The decisive and responsible spirit of the party committees and authorities in Can Tho City has been demonstrated through concrete and creative actions.

Through surveys and assessments, Tan Hoa commune has dozens of households eligible for housing support. During the implementation process, local Party and government leaders directly visited each household to monitor progress, encourage and assist in resolving difficulties faced by residents; they also deployed militia, youth union members, and other organizations to support residents in dismantling, constructing, and repairing houses. Local authorities also proactively worked with suppliers to guarantee the purchase of building materials to help residents build their homes.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong from Tan Hoa commune gratefully shared: “Thanks to the local leaders guaranteeing the purchase of building materials, and additional loans from family members, my husband and I were able to build a new house. Before, our house was small and leaky, and every time it rained, the earthen floor became very muddy. Now, with a new house, we can work with peace of mind and focus on developing our economy .”

In Hamlet 2, Vi Thanh 1 Commune, there are 4 households in need of house construction or repair. Mr. Vo Thanh Le, Head of Hamlet 2, said: “Besides the financial support from the State, we mobilized relatives and family members of the beneficiaries to contribute financially if they could, or to contribute labor if they could not. All 4 houses received support from relatives in terms of money and labor.”

Let's work together to reach the finish line sooner.

Having a sturdy house is a dream for Mrs. Tran Ngoc Nua's family in Xang Moi C hamlet, Thanh Xuan commune. Their old house was dilapidated, leaking every rainy season, and the floor was damp. When they received 60 million VND in support to build a new house under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, she was very happy but also worried. Happy because they would soon have a new, solid house. Worried because the distance to transport building materials from the main road to their house is about 300-400 meters, crossing a small bridge. Since the family consists only of the elderly couple, hiring laborers for transportation would be expensive.

With the support of members of the Thạnh Xuân commune's housing repair club for impoverished households in dismantling her old house, transporting materials, and building a new one, Mrs. Nửa was moved: "Without their help, we would have had to spend money hiring workers and transporting construction materials, while being poor, we couldn't afford to add more than the 60 million VND the government provided."

Mr. Phạm Văn Tư, one of the club members, said: “In the spirit of ‘everyone contributes what they can,’ we all worked together to build houses, hoping that the people will soon have sturdy homes to live in, and that the locality will complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses sooner.”

This success lies not only in the newly built houses but also in the spirit of solidarity and compassion that has been fostered and spread throughout the community. This is also a core value and a vivid testament to the principle of "putting the people first," affirming that the goal of caring for the happiness and well-being of the people is always placed first.

“Each house is a gift, a warm home, reflecting responsibility, love, national solidarity, brotherhood, and the sharing spirit of the entire community,” Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh emphasized when speaking about the significance of the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses. More than just a major policy, this is a humane journey, imbued with the Party's meaning and the people's compassion. With the spirit of “extraordinary enthusiasm, extraordinary effort, extraordinary results,” and “swiftness and boldness,” the program has been implemented comprehensively and decisively, helping tens of thousands of poor and near-poor households in Can Tho City to have a warm and loving home, ensuring no one is left behind.
