Based on information from the people, on July 30, reporters from Lang Son Newspaper and Radio and Television Station directly went to Po Loi 1 bridge area, district road 36, in Po Loi village, Na Duong commune and met with people who often travel through this area.
Mr. Vi Cao Quy, Ban Hoi village, Loc Binh commune said: Since the Lunar New Year of At Ty 2025 until now, every time it rains heavily, mud from this wood gathering site flows down to the road and Po Loi 1 bridge, making our travel difficult, even dangerous. The soil from this site has also flowed down, completely burying the drainage ditch next to the road. Because there is no longer a ditch, every time it rains, mud, dirt, and garbage from the site also flow onto the road, down the bridge, into the river, causing environmental pollution and unsafety for traffic participants...
According to our observations, the location of the wood storage yard mentioned above is close to Highway 36. On this route, the starting point is high and slopes down towards Po Lo 1 Bridge. On the afternoon of July 30, at this wood storage yard, there were still piles of soil mixed with tree bark and wood chips, at risk of overflowing onto the road when it rains heavily.
Mr. Ma Viet Van, Party Cell Secretary, Head of Po Loi Village, Na Duong Commune, said: The above wood gathering site has been operating for nearly a year now. Since around February 2025, the soil from the site has been leveled to the side of the road and overflowed, blocking the drainage ditch. Recently, every time it rains heavily, a large amount of mud mixed with tree bark and wood chips flows straight onto the road and flows down the slope to the middle of Po Loi 1 Bridge. Faced with this situation, some people have made a petition and the village has reported it to the People's Committee of Na Duong Commune.
Upon receiving the report, the commune directed the police force to coordinate with the road management unit to verify the actual situation. From there, it requested the responsible person to take measures to remedy the above situation to ensure the safety of people's travel.
Mr. Lanh Van Dien, representative of Dong Bac Lang Son Construction Joint Stock Company (the unit managing the DH 36 road) said: This road stretches from Po Loi village, Na Duong commune to Ban Gieng village, Mau Son commune. Through the survey, we have verified that the people's reflection is true. The unit has made a record of the incident and requested to fix and restore the current state of the DH 36 road surface.
According to the investigation, after the people's feedback and after the authorities intervened, the tenant and manager of the above wood yard have taken corrective measures as requested. Mr. Tran Van Dang (residing in Thai Nguyen province), the person in charge of managing the above wood yard, said: We have rented the premises here since September 2024 to use as a wood yard and transit area, the lease term is 5 years, with a total area of about 1,000m². On July 29, we leveled and scooped up the soil that had spilled onto the road. We will continue to use vehicles and machinery to restore the road surface to its original state, and at the same time, clear the drainage ditches along this section of the road.
However, according to our observations on the afternoon of July 30, in the above area there were still piles of soil mixed with tree bark and wood chips on the side of the road. In addition, at the time we were there, a quantity of soil after being leveled was moved to the location of the Po Loi 1 bridgehead. This amount of soil had buried the upper part of the bridge pier, a part of the soil had overflowed into the Ky Cung River and stuck to the foot of the bridge pier. At the boundary between the wood storage yard and DH 36, although the soil that had overflowed onto the road had been relatively neatly handled, the owner of the facility had not yet taken measures to cover it. This means that when there is heavy rain, soil and rocks will continue to overflow onto the road.
It can be seen that, from the people's reflection, the authorities have stepped in to verify and request handling. The owner of the wood storage yard has also had a temporary solution. However, with a 5-year lease term, the person responsible for managing and using the land for the above wood storage yard needs to have feasible and long-term measures to prevent soil, bark, and wood chips from spilling onto the road. In addition, relevant agencies, units, and individuals need to continue to closely monitor and supervise the remediation of this situation. Thereby ensuring traffic safety, as well as protecting the environment around this area.
