Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh has been dismissed from his position as Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province.

On the morning of March 4th, the An Giang Provincial People's Council, 10th term, 2021-2026, held its 18th session (Special Session) to consider and decide on the dismissal of the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term; the dismissal of delegates of the An Giang Provincial People's Council, 10th term, 2021-2026; and the removal and election of additional members of the Provincial People's Committee for the 2021-2026 term.

At the session, the delegates of the An Giang Provincial People's Council considered and unanimously voted to dismiss Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh from the position of Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee (term 2021-2026), and to dismiss him from the position of delegate of the An Giang Provincial People's Council, 10th term (term 2021-2026); and to dismiss Mr. Tran Anh Thu from the position of Vice Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee.

Previously, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, was charged and detained by the Investigation Police Department of the Ministry of Public Security for abusing his position and power in the performance of his official duties; Mr. Tran Anh Thu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, was charged and detained for accepting bribes.

The Central Party Secretariat has decided to impose disciplinary action in the form of "Expulsion from the Party" against Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province, and Mr. Tran Anh Thu, Member of the Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of An Giang province.

Also at this session, the delegates of the An Giang Provincial People's Council considered and unanimously voted to dismiss Mr. Nguyen Bao Trung (former Chief of the Office of the Provincial People's Committee) from his position as a member of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee due to taking on a new assignment.

At the same time, the election was held to fill the vacant positions of Member of the People's Committee of An Giang province for the 2021-2026 term for Mr. Tran Hoa Hop, Chief of the Office of the People's Committee of An Giang province, and Mr. Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Director of the Department of Construction of An Giang province.
