International friends mourn the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong

Upon the passing of former Politburo member and former President Tran Duc Luong, international friends expressed their deep condolences and acknowledged his great contributions to Vietnam's revolutionary cause and to fostering friendly relations between Vietnam and other countries.

On May 24, at the International Convention Center ( Hanoi ), Ambassadors and Charge d'Affaires from foreign embassies in Vietnam visited and signed the condolence book for former President Tran Duc Luong.

In the condolence book, US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper wrote: "The latePresident Tran Duc Luong was a pioneer in promoting relations between Vietnam and the United States. We will also not forget his warm and enthusiastic welcome to former President Bill Clinton during his visit to Vietnam in 2000. The passing of the late President is a great loss to the Party, State and people of Vietnam. We would like to send our deepest condolences to the family of the late President."

Timor Leste Ambassador to Vietnam Joan Pereira wrote in the condolence book: "I am deeply sorry for the passing of comrade Tran Duc Luong. I hope that the leadership legacy of the late President Tran Duc Luong will inspire the next generations of Vietnam, towards a better future, and continue to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Vietnam and Timor Leste."

On the same day, a delegation of foreign consulates general in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), honorary consuls of international organizations and associations came to Thong Nhat Hall to bid farewell and express condolences to former President Tran Duc Luong.

According to Dau Tu Electronic Newspaper, Mr. Timur Sadykov, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Ho Chi Minh City, led the delegation. Writing in the condolence book, he expressed his deep condolences and sent his condolences to the Vietnamese people.

Writing in the condolence book in Vietnamese, Mr. Phonesy Bounmixay, Consul General of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Ho Chi Minh City, expressed his infinite sorrow at the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong.

He wrote: “Comrade Tran Duc Luong, an outstanding leader, is a key figure of the Communist Party of Vietnam. He always upholds the spirit of sacrifice and exemplary leadership of cadres and party members in serving the revolutionary cause of the Party, State and people with honesty and integrity, dedicating his intelligence and strength to the cause of building and protecting the prosperous and developed Fatherland of Vietnam.”

Mr. Phonesy Bounmixay affirmed that the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong is not only a great loss for the Party, State and people of Vietnam but also the loss of a close friend of the Party, State and people of Laos.

Former President Tran Duc Luong has always cared about and supported the cause of preserving and developing Laos, making great contributions to consolidating and building the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Vietnam and Laos to become increasingly strong and rich.

In this moment of sorrow, Mr. Phonesy Bounmixay sends his deepest condolences to the Party, State, Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, all Vietnamese people and the family of former President Tran Duc Luong.

“We believe that the Party, State and people of Vietnam will turn this sadness into a source of strength for the national solidarity bloc to continue moving forward firmly, building Vietnam into a modern industrialized country, realizing the goal of a rich people, strong country, democracy, fairness and civilization,” he wrote.

Mr. Chan Sorykan, Consul General of the Kingdom of Cambodia in Ho Chi Minh City, emotionally wrote in the condolence book: “Comrade Tran Duc Luong is a steadfast and visionary leader who has made great contributions to the revolutionary cause and the development of the country, and is also a sincere and devoted friend of the Kingdom of Cambodia, always cultivating and strengthening the traditional friendship and cooperation between our two countries.”

According to him, the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong is a great loss not only for the Party, State and people of Vietnam but also for international friends, including the people of Cambodia.

Mr. Lehőcz Gábor, Consul General of Hungary in Ho Chi Minh City, also sent his deepest condolences to the Vietnamese people on the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong.

“President Tran Duc Luong will be remembered for his tireless dedication to the country and his tireless efforts in strengthening international relations,” Lehőcz Gábor wrote in the condolence book.

Mr. Lehőcz Gábor was particularly grateful for the historic visit of former President Tran Duc Luong to Hungary in 2004. This visit not only deepened relations between Hungary and Vietnam but also laid the foundation for future cooperation in many fields, enriching the lives of the people of both countries.

“We hope that the memories of his life and contributions will bring comfort and strength to all who are grieving his loss,” the Hungarian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City wrote.

According to VNA, on May 23 (local time), Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro sent his deepest condolences to the State, Government and people of Vietnam upon hearing the news of the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong.

In a statement on May 23, President Maduro affirmed that former President Tran Duc Luong was one of the most important leaders of Vietnam, who was always steadfast in socialist principles and made many contributions to the country's development and prosperity.

The statement emphasized: "The Government highly appreciates the great contributions of former President Tran Duc Luong in strengthening the Venezuela-Vietnam cooperative relationship, typically the close friendship with the late President - Commander Hugo Chavez in consolidating the traditional friendship between the two countries."

The Government of Venezuela reaffirms the deep friendship and pledges to continue strengthening the Venezuela-Vietnam friendship and cooperation.

Also on May 23, media and social networks in Venezuela widely published President Nicolás Maduro's condolence statement and much information about the life and career of former President Tran Duc Luong.

On May 22, President of the Republic of Cuba Miguel Diaz-Canel announced an official funeral to commemorate former President of Vietnam Tran Duc Luong. The funeral will take place from 6:00 a.m. on May 24 to 0:00 a.m. on May 25 (local time).

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed his deep sorrow at the passing of former President Tran Duc Luong. During his glorious leadership career, former President Tran Duc Luong made great contributions to Vietnam's reform process and the special brotherly and trusting relationship between the people, Parties and Governments of the two countries.

During the official mourning period, the Cuban flag was flown at half-staff on public buildings and military institutions.

Former Politburo member and former President Tran Duc Luong passed away at 10:51 p.m. on May 20 at his home at the age of 88. His funeral was held as a state funeral on May 24 and 25.
