Small version, big dream!

From Khe Den Border Station (belonging to Lang Mo Border Station), we followed the western branch of the Ho Chi Minh trail and then followed the concrete road winding under the forest canopy to the final destination, Ploang village, Truong Son commune. In the middle of a peaceful valley, Ploang village has 36 Bru - Van Kieu ethnic households with nearly 160 people.

People's lives are still full of hardships, but in recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, especially the practical companionship of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP) and the Border Guard (BĐBP), people's material and spiritual lives are gradually changing in a positive direction.

Small version, big dream!

The natural conditions in Ploang are quite harsh as the land is arid, but just a few rains can make it become thick and mushy. There is no agricultural land, the forest area is limited, in that context, livestock farming becomes the most feasible economic development direction that people can rely on to escape poverty.

Right at the beginning of the village is the house of Ho Van Thong and Ho Thi Ly. As one of the two households that boldly registered to escape poverty in 2025, in March 2025, they were lent 50 million VND by the Transaction Office of the People's Credit Fund of Quang Ninh to buy breeding cows.

Mr. Thong said that during the process of raising cows, his family received the enthusiastic attention of the Border Guard, in which Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Nam Giang, Khe Den Border Guard Working Group, Lang Mo Border Guard Station, Deputy Secretary of Ploang Village Party Cell, was the one who always closely followed the situation, guided him in taking care of the cows to ensure safety and good development. 5 cows were purchased from preferential loans, so far 4 are preparing to give birth, promising to bring positive changes to the family in the near future.

In addition to developing livestock, Mr. Thong and his wife also trade in essential consumer goods, both meeting the needs of the local people and helping the family have a steady source of income. And another good news is that the family's daughter has also been able to borrow capital to participate in a temporary labor contract in Japan, and now has a stable job with a good salary. When we asked if they could escape poverty by the end of 2025 as promised, both of them smiled and affirmed that they would succeed.

Ploang village currently has two households that have escaped poverty: the family of Party Secretary Nguyen Van Nhat and the family of Village Chief Nguyen Thi Thi. These are pioneering households in economic development, actively mobilizing people to rise up, contributing to spreading the spirit of self-reliance in the community. We believe that, with the leadership and example of village officials and the joint support from the forces, Ploang village will have more households escape poverty, gradually fulfilling the big dream of a small village in the Truong Son mountain range.

Along with Mr. Thong and Mrs. Ly, the family of Mr. Ho Van Thien - Ho Thi Nghi is also among the few households that boldly set a goal of escaping poverty in 2025. With a loan of 50 million VND from the Quang Ninh Social Policy Bank, he invested in buying 3 buffaloes. After more than 4 months of care, his herd of buffaloes gave birth to 2 more. Each growing calf is a joy, a step closer to the family's goal of escaping poverty.

Reporting to the staff of the Social Policy Bank and the Border Guard about the buffalo herd, Mr. Thien did not forget to thank the two units for supporting his family with both capital and always paying attention to the livestock situation, and at the same time firmly affirmed that his family would escape poverty by the end of this year as promised.

Along with the buffalo herd, Mr. Thien also takes good care of his herd of 7 goats, the breed source of which is supported by the Farmers' Association. From a life of great hardship, his family now knows how to effectively care for the livestock, calculate expenses and nurture the desire to escape poverty.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Nam Giang, who has been a constant companion of the people of Ploang village, said: The difficulties caused by the lack of agricultural land and forest land for production are huge barriers for the people here. However, the people are still making constant efforts to escape poverty.

Animal husbandry is the most suitable direction for the actual conditions of the village. In addition to the herds of buffalo and cows that are released far from the village to take advantage of natural grass resources, within the village, the image of a herd of goats wandering around the front yard and backyard has become familiar.

Mr. Ho Van Viet is one of the typical goat farmers. From the initial 3 goats, he has now expanded his herd to 9. During the recent Lunar New Year, he sold 2 meat goats for 150,000 VND/kg, earning extra income for spending and shopping.

Not only that, he is also respected by the villagers for his diligence and unique experience in taking care of goats. Whenever a goat is injured or refuses to eat, he uses forest leaves to treat it, becoming a “secret” for the villagers to learn. In Ploang village today, raising livestock is gradually opening up hope for many families on the journey to escape poverty.

The stories of the families of Ho Van Thong, Ho Van Thien, Ho Van Viet... are clear evidence of the effectiveness of preferential loans and policies when they reach the right place, the right person, and the right time.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Ngoc, Director of the Quang Ninh Social Policy Bank, said: In the process of providing loans to people to develop production, especially livestock farming, the unit always closely coordinates with the Border Guard and local officials to grasp the situation and provide timely support when necessary. The preferential capital has been used by people for the right purposes, promoting clear efficiency. In the coming time, the bank will continue to allocate resources to accompany people on their journey to escape poverty, gradually developing the economy in a sustainable manner.

Today’s changes show that the State’s preferential credit policy is really effective. The journey to support the highland people in general, and the Bru-Van Kieu people in Ploang village in particular, will continue, so that “no one is left behind”.

From small-scale livestock models and seemingly simple dreams, the people of Ploang village are gradually changing their lives. And on that journey, there is always the companionship and support of the Party and the State, including border guards and bank officers, so that the dream of escaping poverty of the highland people gradually becomes a reality.
