According to Tuoi Tre Online , the price of the 2026 World Cup television rights offered by the International Football Federation (FIFA) in Vietnam "is not less than double digits and must be higher than the tournament 4 years ago in Qatar".

World Cup 2026 copyright price double digits, higher than previous five tournaments

At the 2022 World Cup, VTV and its partners are said to have spent up to 15 million USD to buy broadcasting rights. Thus, the price of the 2026 World Cup copyright in Vietnam is expected to be higher than 15 million USD.

Another source told Tuoi Tre : "FIFA even wanted to sell the 2026 World Cup copyright in Vietnam for 20 million USD. But this number later decreased, and will continue to decrease, but the copyright price for the 2026 World Cup must certainly be higher than the tournament in 2022."

The 2026 World Cup copyright surge is understandable because the tournament taking place in North America next summer will have 48 teams (instead of 32 as before). The number of matches will therefore increase from 64 to more than 100 matches.

Apart from the factors related to the number of matches, the increase in the price of World Cup copyright is also very normal. Over the past two decades, the price of World Cup television copyright in Vietnam has increased from 2.1 million USD to 15 million USD.

The price is too high, I can't afford it.

Sharing with Tuoi Tre , an expert in the field of advertising and communications said: "The copyright price of the 2026 World Cup is higher than the tournament 4 years ago. However, that will cause difficulties for TV stations because there is no revenue that can compensate. Advertising is only a small part, especially when the economy is currently very difficult. It is impossible to afford a price of more than 15 million USD."

To find a way to resolve the copyright issue of the 2026 World Cup, a copyright expert said that TV stations in Vietnam need to sit together to avoid being forced to pay higher prices. However, this expert also said that it is very difficult to ask for a joint venture between many parties to buy because the purposes and benefits are too different.

According to television copyright experts, the price of the 2026 World Cup copyright in Vietnam is very difficult to decrease significantly. However, this is not the time for television stations to compete to buy copyright. The parties will have to have plans and solutions, and everything will become hot again at the end of 2025 before the 2026 World Cup.

Negotiating television rights is a complex battle that requires careful calculation from many sides. Infront Sports & Media is currently an advisory company for FIFA in selling the 2026 World Cup rights in Asia, including Vietnam.
