From 8:00 p.m. on December 25, Fansipan peak ( Lao Cai province) at an altitude of 3,143 m appeared covered in ice, the second time since the beginning of winter this year.
Frost covers the wooden floors and pillars of the tourist area on the mountain top. A staff member working there said the temperature on the top of Fansipan is currently around -2 degrees Celsius, humidity is nearly 80%, and it is not raining. Because it is dark, the extent of the frost has not been determined.
In Sa Pa, at an altitude of 1,600 m above sea level, the lowest temperature measured by the meteorological agency this morning was nearly 6 degrees Celsius. As a rule, for every 100 m increase, the temperature drops by 0.6 degrees Celsius.

This is the second time frost has appeared this winter. Three days ago, dense frost also appeared on the Lan Pan Tan mountain peak in Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province and the area from 2,300 m up to the Fansipan peak.
Weather experts explain that frost appeared on Fansipan peak because the sky is clear and the temperature is low. From now until tomorrow morning, other high peaks such as Mau Son (Lang Son) and Dong Pagoda (Quang Ninh) are likely to also see frost.
The Northern and North Central regions are experiencing a severe cold spell that began on December 16, the longest cold spell since the beginning of winter. During this cold spell, on December 22, Mau Son (Lang Son) had a lowest temperature of minus 2 degrees Celsius, and a day later, all northern provinces and three North Central provinces had temperatures below 10 degrees Celsius.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that from tomorrow, the cold air will weaken, and the temperature in the North will gradually increase. Hanoi's temperature today is 10-22 degrees Celsius, in the following days the daytime temperature will increase to 25 degrees, and at night to 17-18 degrees. High points over 1,500 meters above sea level such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai) will increase from 3-12 degrees to 6-18 degrees.
