The 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025) is a special milestone for journalists across the country to look back on the glorious and proud journey.
The discussion with the theme: "BCCM Bac Lieu - Glorious historical journeys" (organized by the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, the Provincial Journalists Association in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Provincial Union of Literature and Arts Associations) is an opportunity for journalists to reflect on themselves: what they have contributed to their homeland from the pen of a revolutionary soldier, in line with the true mission of BCCM.
Journalist Nguyen Duy Hoang - Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of the province spoke at the seminar.
Every journalist is a part of history
According to the Chairman of the Provincial Journalists Association - Nguyen Duy Hoang: “ The 100th anniversary of Vietnam Communist Party Day is a source of pride and honor for the entire press community. We are even more proud and honored because all of us - the journalists present today, each life is a witness, a part of the 100-year history of journalism. Even though each person came to the profession, devoted himself to the Communist Party's cause in different historical periods; but we all have the same aspiration, the same heart under the glorious flag of the glorious Party, dedicating our whole life to the Communist Party's cause, wholeheartedly serving the Fatherland, serving the People ...”.
At the seminar, the presentations further clarified the stages of Bac Lieu journalism in that hundred-year journey. The writing of each journalist (especially those who were former leaders of press agencies) is also a collection of unforgettable memories, because it is a journey of dedication with all their heart and soul! The presentation of journalist Vu Thanh - former Director of Bac Lieu Radio and Television Station is like a documentary film meticulously detailed to every detail, date... "Going separate" with countless difficulties: " A dilapidated abandoned hall, divided into 3 rooms. One room has an AM transmitter, one room is a recording studio, one room in front is a workplace and a level 4 house. The Station's leadership had to temporarily borrow 2 rooms from the School of Cultural and Information Affairs for reporters to stay temporarily ". After 15 years, Bac Lieu Radio and Television Station was honored to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister and a Third-class Labor Medal from the President in recognition of its continuous improvement and quality enhancement, serving well the political tasks of the locality.
In 1946, the newspaper Chiến - the first newspaper of the Party Committee of Bắc Liêu province (including Cà Mau province) was born in Ong Mật canal, Cái Trăng, Năm Căn, bringing a new wind into the political - cultural - ideological life of the southernmost land of the country during the years of fighting. Then the newspaper Hòa Bình - Thống Nhất, Cờ Giai Phóng, and the magazine Lúa Vàng... were born one after another according to the requirements of each period, promptly encouraging the revolutionary movement to win as well as creating a solid foundation for the development of the Bắc Liêu press. All of this has been vividly reviewed through many discussions by journalists who have experienced the war and are also press leaders through the periods.
There are journalists who come to the discussion not to read papers but to tell about "untold details" - like journalist Doan Hung. Those are details that deeply depict the dedication of journalists during the war, with many hardships, even life-threatening. Or with the paper "Press photography - a sharp weapon from the moment of light", through analysis of the role of press photography, journalist - photographer Dang Anh Ro expressed the hope that each journalist will strive to become a photography artist in addition to their journalism profession...

Continuing the glorious journey
Looking back at the efforts of many generations of journalists at Bac Lieu Newspaper, the presentation of journalist Han Ai Tien - former Editor-in-Chief of Bac Lieu Newspaper analyzed: " In the 100-year journey of the Vietnam Communist Party, Bac Lieu Newspaper is proud to contribute to the 79-year journey since its inception, always fulfilling its role and responsibility to the Party and the People, pioneering on the political and ideological front, not afraid to charge into dangerous and difficult places to provide readers with official, timely and accurate information, serving the revolutionary cause of the Party. Proud of its historical tradition and achievements, the team of journalists at Bac Lieu Newspaper will continue to write new glorious pages of history when entering a new stage of development with the press of the whole country ".
As the leader of the team of journalists assigned to build the Bac Lieu press when Bac Lieu and Ca Mau provinces were separated in 1997, Journalist Nguyen Minh Chanh - former Editor-in-Chief of Bac Lieu Newspaper, always had a concern for the Bac Lieu press career. He expressed many concerns about current press trends, including the tendency to provide one-way information, "good" information, not daring, not "reluctant" to proactively publish news and articles to fight against negativity. And a very timely update on the policy of merging press agencies was also mentioned by journalist Nguyen Minh Chanh: “In our country, with a population of more than 100 million people, there will only be 34 editors-in-chief and 34 provincial and municipal Party press agencies. This mechanical merger forces journalists to cleverly solve a series of inevitable problems. The most important of which is to “seize” this opportunity to strengthen the team, build professional capacity, and meet the standards of “converged newsroom”, “smart newsroom”, “AI journalist”...
“The tall and shady trees in the journalism village are mirrors and motivations for young journalists to reflect on themselves - learn - and strive” is the voice of the next generation. That is the speech of journalist Nguyen Quoc (Bac Lieu Newspaper): “The legacy that generations of “tall and shady trees” left for us today is extremely valuable and diverse. It is not only sharp journalistic works, profound commentaries, elaborate investigative reports that still retain current and historical value. But more importantly, it is also invaluable practical lessons about passionate love for the profession, about steadfast political will in the face of all storms, about pure professional ethics and the spirit of respect for the law, about tireless dedication to justice and truth, and a noble sense of social responsibility...”.
The memories reviewed and many valuable lessons learned through the discussions have helped each journalist today to have a deeper understanding of the mission of BCCM Bac Lieu. Reviewing the glorious journeys, expressing gratitude to the journalists who have devoted their lives to the journalism career of the province, the discussion is an opportunity to remind today's generation of journalists to always cherish the past, constantly learn, proactively create, innovate to adapt and continue writing the glorious history of BCCM in the present and towards the future.
