The image of the Nam Cai spillway flowing through Dong Tam hamlet, Thach Ngan commune (Con Cuong) was recorded by a reporter on the morning of March 13. Photo: HT Hundreds of large and small bags of garbage were thrown directly into the stream, causing the water to back up and pollute the stream and block the flow. A local resident said that not only household waste and plastic waste, but also dead poultry and livestock were thrown into the stream, giving off a foul smell. Photo: HT Not only underwater, but also on the shore around the spillway area, there are all kinds of garbage scattered. It is known that along the route from National Highway 7 to Thach Ngan commune, passing through many streams and creeks, there are a total of 10 spillways and 1 solid bridge. The spillway over Nam Cai stream is the first bridge on the route to Thach Ngan commune, and this is also the place where the most garbage is thrown. The remaining spillways have a relatively low rate of garbage being dumped into the streams and creeks. Photo: HT
The spillway bridge suddenly became a 'garbage collection' place?! The leader of the People's Committee of Thach Ngan commune admitted that the situation of littering indiscriminately at this spillway bridge area has been happening for a while. Local authorities and organizations have repeatedly propagated to people about environmental protection awareness, the harmful effects of waste on water resources and human health. In local meetings, this content has also been reminded and suggested to be promptly remedied, but so far it has not been thoroughly resolved. Photo: HT
Following the flow, waste flows down to other hamlets and villages. The leader of the People's Committee of Thach Ngan commune also expressed that the government and organizations will strengthen propaganda measures, and at the same time encourage the detection of litterers to promptly prevent and remind, such as researching the installation of surveillance cameras. In the long term, the commune currently does not have a service to collect household waste, which is also a difficulty in environmental protection work, and needs support from all levels and sectors to find solutions.
