Granma newspaper hopes that the special archive entitled “Cuba and Vietnam: Common Paths” (Cuba y Vietnam: Lo del andar) launched to readers on March 24 will become the most vivid museum about the faithful relationship between the two peoples.

The year 2025 marks many important events: the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025), the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025), the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Vietnam and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of South Vietnam (April 30, 1975). In particular, this year was officially recognized by the two countries as the "Year of Friendship" (Año de la Amistad), affirming a rare exemplary relationship in the history of international relations.

The special page launched on the same year that Granma newspaper celebrated the 60th anniversary of its first issue (October 4, 1965) is not simply a collection of documents, but a pictorial epic with moments that have become symbols of brotherhood: when Commander-in-Chief Fidel declared “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to sacrifice its blood”; Uncle Ho’s warm smile when welcoming the first Cuban delegation to officially visit Vietnam, ships loaded with sugar from the Caribbean island to Hai Phong port…

Throughout the six decades, Granma journalists have witnessed and stood shoulder to shoulder with the struggle of the Vietnamese people right on their homeland. The late journalist Marta Rojas - who devoted her entire youth to writing about Vietnam - once shared: "I feel like a Cuban born in the Mekong Delta". The veteran female reporter of Granma is the most vivid bridge as she was the last foreign journalist to interview President Ho Chi Minh . She also directly participated in reporting on the resistance of the Vietnamese people and witnessed with her own eyes the joy of the country being reunited on April 30, 1975.

Granma's massive archive has now digitized more than 5,000 articles from the anti-American resistance war, 200 rare color photos of Hanoi in the 1970s, and the original speech of Cuban leader Fidel Castro during his visit to Quang Tri in 1973 amid the bombs and smoke of war.

In a message to the special page, Granma Editor-in-Chief Yailin Orta Rivera emphasized that the newspaper is not only preserving the past but is also creating the future. Granma is implementing a digital media cooperation project with Nhan Dan Newspaper, producing a 4K documentary about the 65-year journey of Cuba-Vietnam relations and preparing for the virtual reality exhibition “Ho Chi Minh - Fidel: Two men, one ideal”.

The name of the special page “Cuba and Vietnam: Common Paths” (Cuba y Vietnam: Lo del andar) - inspired by the song of the same name by Cuban singer and songwriter Silvio Rodríguez - is like a reminder of the long journey ahead. In the context of a turbulent world, the Cuba-Vietnam relationship remains as pure as it was in the beginning: A friendship without borders, a brotherhood without distance.
