Don't leave children alone to face school violence.
Recently, the continuous cases of school violence in Kien Giang, Quang Binh, Binh Phuoc have made everyone worried. Is it true that school violence is like a harsh phenomenon of nature: it comes back in season?
The student environment lacks strong interaction.
For a long time, people often think that school violence arises from social networks, from parents' negligence, from children's addiction to games... In my opinion, those causes are correct but not thorough.
It can be seen that most of the school violence cases when appearing in the media have happened quite a long time ago. This shows that the school's grasp of the situation is not timely.
Besides, the current school environment seems to lack close interactions between students, between teachers and students; lacks collective activities to create an environment for students to interact and work together...
Not only that, somewhere, it seems that teachers always turn on the mode of framing themselves within the limit of "completing the assigned work is enough". They lack the reach of "could be better".
On the other hand, we see that in the school environment, some students still believe that "fists will solve everything", "posting clips will give you power", so violence will inevitably be what they think about and choose.
Austrian psychologist Alfred Alder once said: "A happy child uses his childhood to embrace life. An unhappy child uses his whole life to heal his childhood."
With the current reality, more than ever, those in the school environment need a common vision and need more self-made solutions.
Specifically, through many available channels, the school board and mass organizations need to screen and evaluate which groups of students, at what time, in which class, and in which locality, have the potential to cause trouble.
Because there are students who are very rebellious when their parents are not paying attention. There are students who are very aggressive when their classmates in the same village or neighborhood are very "tiger". There are students who like to imitate violence like in movies...
Turn on multiple warning lights at the same time
Speaking more about this, Mr. Hoang Van Ty - Principal of Ninh Hai High School, Ninh Hai District, Ninh Thuan Province - shared: "In addition to propaganda and reminders about school violence, the school board, unions, especially homeroom teachers, always proactively follow up on unhealthy behaviors in school, review and evaluate groups of students at risk of causing violence, meet directly with students to listen and resolve conflicts right from the start, avoiding letting conflicts deepen."
Especially with the current trend, schools, even student organizations, need to proactively create social networking sites that allow students to send anonymous messages and post anonymous articles to share their thoughts, concerns and make calls for help without fear of scrutiny or retaliation...
This is a way to help students feel cared for and listened to, and also helps the school grasp feedback information promptly.
There are 5,599 wishes and aspirations shared by students on an anonymous social networking site at a high school.
Another fact shows that there are students who may not know who the village chief or ward secretary is, but they certainly know who the hamlet chief is.
Therefore, schools should closely connect with officials such as hamlet chiefs and district chiefs, because this will help schools, families and localities prevent violence in the neighborhood.
Not only that, if conditions permit, high schools should connect with law faculties and law universities to hold mock trials at school about school violence.
This activity not only helps students have more opportunities to experience and orient their careers, but also helps them realize the consequences of school violence for themselves and their families.
In addition, schools need to further strengthen collective activities such as experientialeducation - career guidance, life skills education, and if possible, "decentralize" students to participate in activities such as landscape care, general cleaning work to help them increase interaction and empathy.
Regarding this, Chu Ha Minh Anh, class 10A5, Loc An High School, Bao Lam, Lam Dong, shared a memory: "In grade 9, I was isolated by my friends using social networks. At that time, I was stressed and could not find a way out.
Luckily, during a cleaning session, a classmate from another class showed me the story of Miss Phung Truong Tran Dai overcoming school violence. After reading it, I felt sympathetic and found a ray of light to escape from my obsession."
In the past, now and maybe tomorrow, school violence is always a burning issue if we do not eliminate it as soon as possible.
In addition, schools need to further strengthen psychological counseling activities, collective activities such as experiential education - career guidance, life skills education, and organize activities such as "dramatizing anti-school violence content".
Sharing his experience on this, Mr. Ngo Viet Tien, Secretary of the Youth Union of Loc An High School, Lam Dong - the unit that was honored to receive the emulation flag of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union in 2023, said: "Dramatizing content related to school violence not only helps students have a playground, helps them learn the law, but also through interaction and discussion when students create scenarios and role-play is also an effective way to spread awareness of preventing school violence".
Let's join hands to create a true second home for each student: a place where they have enough mental antibodies, where their thoughts and wishes are listened to; where their trust and deep attachment are built... because just one harsh word is like a nail driven into wood, even if the nail is pulled out, the mark is still there.
