On May 6 and 7, although they are not Fridays or Saturdays, the museum will open to visitors both during the day and in the evening. Evening opening hours are from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This activity is to meet the needs of visitors to the Museum who want to admire the Panorama painting "Dien Bien Phu Campaign".
Ms. Vu Thi Tuyet Nga, Director of the Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum, said that in March 2024, the Museum welcomed more than 50,400 visitors; including many delegations of veterans from provinces and cities in the country and cadres, soldiers, and students visiting, researching, learning, and reviewing historical traditions.
To ensure that the service to visitors is thoughtful, effective and safe, the Museum has mobilized maximum staff, workers to work overtime, increase the number of tour guides to meet the needs of tourist groups; focusing on the plan to distribute tourists evenly across the exhibition hall and the Panorama painting "Dien Bien Phu Campaign", avoiding the situation of visitors gathering too much at one place.
In addition, the collection, inventory and preservation work is also carried out simultaneously to supplement documents, artifacts and vivid stories. From there, tour guides can build stories to vividly convey to visitors about the Dien Bien Phu Victory.
The Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum is a modern architectural work; the exterior is designed in the shape of a bamboo hat covered with camouflage net of the Dien Bien soldiers of the past. The exhibition area is arranged on the first floor with an area of 1,250 m2 with nearly 1,000 documents, artifacts, photos, maps, which is considered a modern exhibition, organized scientifically and artistically with the support of advanced techniques and technology.
The highlight of the Museum is the Panorama painting "Dien Bien Phu Campaign". This is the largest painting in Southeast Asia; one of the three largest paintings in the world. The painting is painted with oil on canvas with 4,500 characters and mountain and forest landscapes. All have completely and seamlessly recreated the typical battles according to the developments of the Dien Bien Phu campaign, giving viewers a full, intuitive and vivid perspective, combined with majestic music.
The Dien Bien Phu Historical Victory Museum has truly become an attractive tourist destination, not to be missed by every visitor to the historical land of Dien Bien. This is also a highlight for the province to turn historical tourism into a spearhead economic sector.
