According to the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism), regarding the incident of the National Treasure of the Nguyen Dynasty's throne at the Hue Monuments being violated, on May 24, the Department sent Official Dispatch No. 566/DSVH-DT to the Hue Monuments Conservation Center.
The document stated that on May 24, on some social networks, there were reports about the Nguyen Dynasty throne at the Hue Monuments being violated.
Regarding this matter, the Department of Cultural Heritage requests the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to urgently inspect and assess the current status, ensure security and safety, and promptly protect the National Treasures and Hue Monuments; report to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism before May 26; assess the technical status of the national treasures, and promptly propose solutions for handling and preservation in accordance with the provisions of the law on cultural heritage.
At the same time, the Department of Cultural Heritage requested the Hue Monuments Conservation Center to strengthen the protection, preservation and promotion of the value of National Treasures according to the instructions in Official Dispatch No. 1669/BVHTTDL-DSVH dated April 22, 2024 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on strengthening the protection, preservation and promotion of the value of National Treasures and preparing a dossier of artifacts to propose recognition as National Treasures in the 13th batch, 2024.
Currently, the Hue Monuments Conservation Center has directed the Hue Royal Antiquities Museum to bring the Nguyen Dynasty throne to preserve and maintain at the antiquities warehouse and bring the restored throne to display at Thai Hoa Palace to serve tourists.
Previously, the leader of the Hue Monuments Conservation Center informed that in the Thai Hoa Palace area in the Hue Imperial City, there had just been an incident where a tourist who appeared to be “high on drugs” had illegally entered the restricted area of the throne - a National Treasure, sat on the throne and damaged some details of this National Treasure.
The incident occurred at around 12:00 on May 24. A tourist from Ho Chi Minh City (originally from Hue) after buying a ticket to visit approached the area with a protective fence, climbed up and sat on the throne in Thai Hoa Palace and acted and spoke with the expression of a person "high on drugs."
At that time, the number of visitors was sparse, so the incident was discovered by security forces a while later. A tourist used his phone to record and spread the video on social media, causing negative public opinion.
Hue City Police have arrested this subject and are investigating the case.
Thai Hoa Palace is the most important palace in Hue Imperial City, where the king sits on the throne, holds court sessions, grand ceremonies and important rituals, marking the ups and downs of the 13 Nguyen Dynasty emperors.
The throne is located in the center of Thai Hoa Palace and was recognized as a National Treasure of Vietnam in 2015./.
