On the morning of September 13, the Vietnam Journalists Association coordinated with the Vietnam Digital Communications Association and the People's Representative Newspaper to organize a workshop on "Protecting press copyright in the digital environment".

The 4.0 industrial revolution has had a strong impact on the development of the press industry. Especially in the digital age, the issue of copyright of press works faces many new challenges.
Digital content copyright infringement is widespread and growing in severity, complexity, and scope. This affects the revenue, reputation, and brand of press agencies as well as the digital transformation of journalism. Therefore, copyright protection is an urgent issue for press agencies and requires comprehensive and synchronous solutions to achieve the highest efficiency.
In that context, the Vietnam Journalists Association, the Vietnam Digital Communications Association and the People's Representative Newspaper jointly organized the workshop "Protecting press copyright in the digital environment" to clarify the current situation of copyright infringement of press works; at the same time, discuss and find effective solutions to protect press copyright, especially in the digital environment.
The workshop also aims to improve the capacity to protect and exploit copyright of press works in the digital age for editorial offices and journalists; at the same time, contribute to the process of perfecting the legal framework on copyright.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association Tran Trong Dung emphasized: Protecting copyright will promote creativity and motivate journalists and press agencies to invest in content development projects and press innovation projects. Protecting press copyright is a prerequisite to protect the financial resources of press agencies as well as effectively implementing digital content business models, contributing to solving the current economic problem of press and media.

In her welcoming speech at the workshop, Editor-in-Chief of the People's Representative Newspaper Pham Thi Thanh Huyen affirmed that the 4.0 revolution has brought about great changes in technology, changing both journalism technology and reader behavior. In that context, the press has no other choice but to transform digitally to survive and develop. Thanks to digital transformation, many press agencies are becoming more professional, humane, and modern.
However, the digital transformation of journalism also faces many difficulties, especially copyright issues in the digital environment, requiring effective protection solutions, especially technological solutions and perfecting the legal framework.
At the workshop, delegates discussed solutions to help protect press copyright in the digital environment most effectively; in which, they emphasized the importance of technological solutions and proposed recommendations to perfect the legal framework for copyright protection.
Within the framework of the workshop, a signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement took place between the Vietnam Journalists Association and the Vietnam Digital Communications Association on "Improving capacity and knowledge of copyright law enforcement, disseminating knowledge and cultural ethics of press agencies in enforcing copyright protection of press works".
