Amid growing concerns about potential interference in the upcoming presidential election, the US Senate has set the CEOs of major technology companies such as Google, Microsoft and Meta Platforms to testify before the US Senate Intelligence Committee next week about election threats.
Mr. Kent Walker, President of Global Affairs of Alphabet, Google's parent company; Mr. Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs of Meta; and Microsoft President Brad Smith will participate in the hearing on September 18.
The tech CEOs' testimony will provide insight into how their platforms are combating the spread of misinformation to protect the integrity of the election process, according to a spokesperson for the office of Senator Mark Warner, chairman of the Intelligence Committee.
This isn't the first time tech CEOs have been called to testify about issues related to the upcoming presidential election between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. They have also testified before Congress in recent years.
